What is the closest beach to Viera? Cocoa Beach at the end of 520? Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral using the Pineada Causeway? Canova Beach using the Eau Gallie Causeway?

Trying to figure out how you could get to any beach by using any of these causeways from Viera in 15 minutes. Am I just overlooking something?

I have never gone to the beach from Viera but was thinking it would take at least 30-40 minutes in traffic getting to a causway, cross it, and finding a beach.

Once someone lives in the area you will not even want to go to a beach that is at the end of where a causeway comes over the river. That is the tourist beaches and we tend to avoid them like the plague and head for the less crowded beaches .

My house is off Murrell Rd. According to Garmin Mapsource a journey from my house to the Eastern end of Pineda causeway is 11.2 miles and takes 14min 44 sec.

I drove that journey (actually, I was usually travelling between my house and PAFB) 3 or 4 times a day over a 2-week period last month and - as Mapsource suggested - it took about 15 minutes.

There was traffic and there were plenty of red traffic lights, but apart from at the red lights the traffic flowed smoothly and I didn't encounter any hold-ups.

Thanks for the info on getting to the beach. RABFLMOM, which beaches do you recommend that are not touristy? I've been to the beach that is right in front of Patrick a few times last year when I stayed on PAFB for a few weeks. I've also been to Cocoa Beach a few times.

That's pretty good time. Wickam Rd is usually stop and go when I go that way.

I must've been lucky. Then again, perhaps there weren't many tourists around last month. - And the first part wasn't particularly warm!

I also turned right on Murrell, drove North to Viera Blvd, then East to Hwy 1. - Sometimes my GPS (which supposedly takes traffic levels into account) decided that was the quicker route.

I bow to your greater experience. I was in Viera to buy a house, bought it and then came back to work. I'll find out more about traffic conditions when I return to live in it in September.

the beaches in Satellite Beach and Indialantic are awesome! I wanna go to melbourne beach next. Not sure if you mentioned kids but we go to the beach that has a great playground (can't remember the exact name- paradise park maybe). and a picnic shelter/bathrooms/free parking. Perfect for families!

Yes, we do have 2 kids. I will have to look that place up next time we visit. We are considering spending July and August in the area to test out how we would handle the humidity of summer. Any suggestions on where to look for a month or two month rental?
