The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, we must criticize ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger, about my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride.. my jealousy ? These are the things we must check in our daily life."-His Holiness the Dalai Lama

I think to most people religion means believing in a god or gods......when you think of it as "a matter of concience" then it becomes more easy to respect and strive for the qualities of compassion and love for others...as well as yourself......hope that makes sense.

Well that makes no sense, hose. Kerby quotes the Dalai Lama and his views on the purpose of religion. You agree with him. Theophane says that the Dalai Lama understands religion very well. You insult him. What gives?

Maybe this was a test to see how quickly we can criticize others instead of looking at ourselves. Amazing how easily it can happen.

I have heard the Lama criticize America on a few occasions. It sounds like he is criticising criticisers.
