It is, but the generality of buddhists other than those who go seriously monastic about it (I don't mean token periods) seem to be concerned about making enough merit to get a better life on rebirth. I can't say that's totally empirical and comprehensive, but the impression I got was that Buddhist laybods didn't find life so bad as being short of cash to enjoy it.

I had one pretty cool experience early on in my meditation practice.
I was sitting after yoga and was quite open. I was sitting and breathing, in, out, in, out, etc.
For a while, don't know if it was a second or minutes or more, but all was fine.
It wasn't hot or cold, good or bad, light or dark, it just was.
It was acceptance, complete and total acceptance with no desire or wanting.
I'm glad I had it, I haven't had it quite like that again.
I don't expect it again, I didn't expect it then. It just was.
It was nice.

Yep. I can't claim to have 'had' the same feeling, but I came away with a lot of lessons, about awareness, self - awareness, understanding and acceptance of what you can't change. At the same time I reject rejection, abandonment, fatalism and the belief that nothing can be changed.

You can't strive for nirvana, it comes from the 8-fold path. You'll never find it if you search.

I'll leave it to the Arahats to argue that with you.

How to get there?

Nirvana is a negative search. Just drop ego, and you are in it.
Ego is untrue.

Agree!
The ego is about separation from all else, the reinforcement of "I, me."
When the ego is dropped, that boundary fades and is replaced by just a simple state state of being.... no different from all else. That is Nirvana.
An analogy might be when sugar dissolves in tea. The sugar is no longer identifiable, but its sweetness is still present.
