A faith that is based on revelation is going to be less open to debate and criticism of its tenets, since a revelation is not something that will easily stand up to logic. The same degree of intolerance was displayed by Christians once upon a time, and I seem to recall from the Old Testament that at one time the Jews were also warlike and touchy about their faith (some would say they still are). However, it is true that in the present day, it is some of the various Islamic sects that take intolerance to a higher level.

Buddhism not being based on revelation, it (the Tibetan schools at least) is traditionally open to and welcomes "analytical meditation."

Buddhism is also based on Siddhartha's and other Buddha's revelations. It is not the revelations, but the evil authoritarianism that is attached to the cultures (often based on veneration of certain interpretations/writings taken from picked books in the detrimental practice of Bibliolatry) that make them violent prone.

In this case when we compare religions we have to cut through the forms and get to the core principles, essence of the ethos and doctrines.

The core of Buddhism have no issues with criticism and welcome it e.g. explicitly in the Kalama Sutta.

On the other hand, Islam at its core do not entertain criticisms and Muhammad [in the Quran, Ahadiths & Sira] have killed those who criticize him, his acts, deeds, doctrine, etc.
Note examples of the many cases;
List of Killings Ordered or Supported by Muhammad - WikiIslam
1 'Asma' bint Marwan January 624[2]
Kill 'Asma' bint Marwan for opposing Muhammad with poetry and for provoking others to attack him[3][4][2]
Asma' bint Marwan assassinated[2][5]
Ibn Hisham & Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah[6]
Ibn Sa'd, Kitab al-tabaqat al-kabir, Volume 2[3]

2 Abu 'Afak February 624[7] Kill the Jewish poet Abu Afak for opposing Muhammad through poetry[4][6][7][8]
Abu Afak assassinated[7][6][4]
Ibn Hisham & Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah[9]
Ibn Sa'd, Kitab al-tabaqat al-kabir, Volume 2[10]

3 Al Nadr ibn al-Harith
After Battle of Badr March 624[11] According to Mubarakpuri, Al Nadir was captured during the Battle of Badr. A Qur'an verse was revealed ordering the execution of Nadr bin Harith, he was one of two prisoners who were executed and not allowed to be ransomed by their clans because he mocked and harassed Muhammad and wrote poems and stories criticizing him[11][12]
Nadr bin Harith beheaded by Ali[11][12]
Qur'an 83:13[13]
Ibn Hisham & Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah[13]
I believe I don't have to supply you evidence how the above are enforced and carried out at present, with cartoonists, the bloggers in Suadi, Bangladesh, etc.

At the fringes [not the core] of Buddhism as driven more by cultural and local conditions we do have very weird and perverted doctrines and believers. Perhaps over history these perverted [evil prone] Buddhists may [just guess] have killed their critiques, but their justifications cannot be based on the core doctrines of Buddhism nor examples set by the Buddha.
