I thought I should post this in here instead of the main religion forum. This would surely put a kink in the unflexable ideas of the religious and the usual 5421789515 page argument over evolution vs creation would surely ensue.I might be misunderstanding this however so please feel free to correct any misunderstandings I may have.

I was reading along through some literature on Buddhism and came to a conslusion. It seems to me that Buddhism has been trying to say something very similar to string throry and plato's divided line.

All of these involve a very real and factial desctiption of "what's out there" in terms of conscious awareness and logical probablilty. String theory descrives dimensions and goes through the dimensions we understand (the first 4 dimensions; 3 being our waking world and 4 being time). Also string throry describes dimensions far beyond what we understand.

Plato's divided line also makes use of dimensions along a similar line of thought though they take a somewhat different form which is awareness. In this idea our waking life is really equated to looking at shadows on a wall compared to what else is "out there". Eventually we work our way through the layers of math and logic and we are finally aware of something that isn't readily tangible in our plane of existence.

Likewise Buddhism takes us to other levels of "reality". Buddhism I don't know much about (yet) but from what I understand it too can take one to higher levels of awareness.

In short I think that these three ideas (and I'm sure many more) all try to take us to the same place in a manner of speaking. That is I think that if Plato and the Buddah sat down and looked over some string theory they might find a lot of similarities. I ask this because I know that many theories are compatable with other ideas (such as applying mathematical throries to music). I kind of think these guys were all talking about the same thing, but it is something that they can't quite get their head around and thus couldn't really elaborate much.

This probably sounds a little different, and perhaps outright crazy, but my limited understanding of these may have me thinking in the wrong direction.

Anyone have any input? Am I a nut?

No, you are not a nut. I happened upon your thread due to the title...didn't realize until after reading it was in the A and A section.

I am a Christian and have studied some of the different theories you've mentioned. I find it fascinating at least but am not well educated and can't pretend to fully grasp these theories.

Continue your venture and what you seek will be discovered.

Well, I suspect you may have a reasonable grasp of the basic ideas, but, a reasonable grasp and being a nut are not necessarily mutually exclusive domains. You could still be a nut, just one with a reasonable grasp of this notion.

Buddhism was heavily influenced by the complex phillosophies developed in India, that set the basis of Hinduism, these phillosophies were developed trying to find an explanation to our reality, much like what happened in ancient greece, who was also influenced by ancient India's advanced society.

I love the theory of yugas, this theory has 4 defined stages of evolution, and 2 phases ascending and descending, I believe that during the time these phillosophies were developed the people were under the influence of higher ages and thus had a higher understanding about the inner workings of this reality than us.

Lol. That's what I was afraid of. Kind of like the difference between a mathematician and a numerologist...
