Hi all,
I'm just passing through.
When i used to hang out on the Religions&Philosophy forum there were often questions about Buddhism.
There was also often quite a bit of misunderstanding about it.
This PBS Film on Buddhism is excellent ... very informative and beautifully done.

I agree, I just finished watching this, it was great. I am eclectic in my religious practice and include many Buddhist teachings in my faith. At one time I was a Nicherin Shoshu Buddhist. Many of what was shown on the show I had learned in my lessons of Buddhism over the past 40 years. But I really liked their presentation.

just watched it it was great, the similarity of the buddist begging and teaching and jesus sending 70 into the field to preach and teach and be sustained by the community wa a striking parallel.

There are some Buddhist teachings that suggest that Jesus and Buddha were one and the same.. which explained where Jesus was during those lost years. That Jesus traveled to India and China before returning to the middle east.

Or he learned as much about the nature of reality through being a carpenter. Why oh why must people insist that he wasn't integrated within his community ? Something to take into consideration is that even at his height he didn't have the the kind of fame some folks do today. Those aren't lost years , they are simply humble pre ministerial years.

He would have had to have lived a veeeeeeeeeeeeery long time to be one and the same.

Gotama Buddha lived and died, body burned...end of story. No resurrections stories.

It's too bad this thread and the show that goes with it got lost amongst the rhetoric and vitriol. So goes life.

Not that I'm looking for a belief system, but it was a pretty good film.

There's lots of good things on PBS.

Yeah, right, a movie starts with scenes of Kasi and Varanasi, people dipping in the ganges Define irony.

He was just a stoned bugger who had too much of weed, partying and shagging orgies that he finally chose to run away bored and his followers today present **** and bull stories of enlightenment and hoopla basically plagiarized from 1000s of years of Hinduism.

Spare me. Get Buddha on the stepmill and have him lose his belly
