Nice logic there...

Does the Amherst Bee show crime that involves other agencies outside of Amherst too?
Also, does that includes the malls/shopping centers, which tend to get their share of thefts anyway?

The story was about the rash of car break ins and thefts at homes, but I'm not sure. That could be the case, I don't have the paper anymore.
And I think that there is some confusion, I don't think that Amherst is dangerous at all. I will honestly probably still leave my car unlocked during the day, but not at night anymore... All I was saying is that there was a decent crime spree, the fact that it's news does speak to the safety of the town. I think it's odd that any criticism is so harshly rejected.
One thing I've found about the area is that people are very passionate, they either think Buffalo is the best thing to happen to America, and any criticism is false, or else they hate the area. Why can't anyone be objective here and view what is truly good of the area as good, or what is truly bad as bad. It seems that people generally only see one or the other. How are we supposed to ever move forward like that?

I remember channel 2 referring to it as a crime spree too when it happened.

Then it must be so - TV news never sensationalizes :-)

I think the people generally put the are into proper perspective, but when the general view to the public is more negative than positive, then it makes people come out and show that there are some good things going on too.
I don't people were denying the crime either, but were putting it into perspective, as most people understand that no place is crime free to begin with.

Maybe the reason for the negative perspective is that this just isn't that great an area compared to mostcp cities.

Or it could be that people don't know enough about the area to honestly judge it. While it has it's problems, I think people, would be surprised to find some good things about the area in terms of schools(including some of the urban schools), the arts, sports, location, resources and even safety for the most part. So, all isn't as bad as some would make you think it is.

Maybe the locals just do not posess the ability to see the forest for the trees because they have never lived elsewhere. A group without bias such as CNN just ranked Amherst as the 42nd best place to live in the entire country from the hundreds of municipalities with a population of 50,000 to 300,000.

I agree that the schools are pretty good around here, and I believe that the city schools a far better than the average urban school.
I'm not an artsy guy, but I always hear how great the area is for that.
As for sports, I don't think it's that great, we have two old franchises who have never won a championship, were worse than Cleveland in that regard. Hopefully the Bulls improve with UB 2020, I love college football, and the Bulls growing would be awesome, especially if they could growoutof the MAC.
Location is relative, I find it too snowy and cold here, but I also like the fishing and water here. If I had a choice I would like it to probably be 10f warmer in each season.
I'm not sure what resources that we have here besides tons of college grads willing to work cheap, as well as lots of cheap real estate.
I think that the Buffalo suburbs are quite safe, except for Cheektowaga, and maybe Kenmore now. The city is a typical city, a lot more crime. I'm not used to cities, but I'm sure if I was it wouldn't bug me.

Water was a resource that I was thinking of and there is plenty of fresh water in the area. When some areas have issues with water, I think having a bunch of fresh water is something that shouldn't be underestimated.
UB's sports programs are starting to get it together and just need to get over the hump.
As for the pro teams, at least they have made it to championship games and the LA Clippers, which used to be the Buffalo Braves, to this day had their best seasons in Buffalo. Keep in mind that the Browns are older than the Bills and the Sabres have only been around since 1970.
You also have D1 sports offerings through Canisius and Niagara close by as well. You also have schools in lower divisions with sports programs as well.
