[quote=Cyrus221;1881794] Cost of living in Buffalo is dirt cheap, and its one of the reasons I want to move back.
That old adage comes to mind..."You get what you pay for." |

Exactly! You get a low-cost of living environment that is beneficial for everyone. Thanks for the support. This whole thing is really on what one emphasizes; we either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same. So before you go tearing down Buffalo, its time you did a little 'you' work. ![]() |

Ridiculous kid. People who lack ambition always look for the easy way out. PS: Thounds like you'll be fit to thettle in Allentown. |

I wonder if Buffalo is as nice as Scranton? I say this because it seems as if everyone in Scranton has a pessimistic attitude about it, yet its quality-of-life ranks much higher than what you'd be led to believe. Seeing all of the negativity about Buffalo makes me wonder if the same is true of that city.

I think you are right, there is definitely a lot of people that are very negative about the area. And honestly.. some of it is legitimate, like ineffectual/corrupt/whatever local government, or the situation with our job market not having maybe the largest selection of careers and also the pay will tend to be lower (tho this one I still dispute in that, for ex $30k/yr is a decent job for this area..average... while in NYC or some of these other major cities... your in trouble if thats all your pulling in a year.. so your $60k or $70k a year job will be average there..) But outside of those legitimate complaints look at what we have - Architecture, nice unique shops and restaurants in the city (Elmwood ave, Hertel, downtown in general) Especially for a city our size. Major league sports. Awesome nightlife, late last call. Nearby to Toronto. Cleveland and Pittsburgh arnt far. NYC, Montreal, Boston all about 6 hours away. Now while we arn't doing anything with the waterfront yet.. we are right on lake erie.. so if your into boating fishing or whatever. I just like looking out across the lake lots of times. Also I think because of the way the economy is people in this area go out of their way to find things to do and have a good time. I cant believe how many festivals, events and things there are to do once you look. Just on Saturday I had conflict between wanting to go to friends party, a big event at the central terminal, a halloween party at BuffState and the English Beat was playing at BuffState that same night.. AND there was a Sabres game as well. I think we have everything you could want in an area. esp. cause if you look where most people end up moving to -- guess where it is? Suburbia, just in a different town, so the complaints of us lacking culture or not having enough to do or whatever is just ridiculous. We also have all the same big box stores and chain restaurants and suburban sprawl as every other city too! |

But the most interesting aspect of these individuals is they feel compelled to browbeat anyone who points to the positive of said area....**shrug*** |

I think it is all about attitude.
My brother's family just moved TO Buffalo, in the Kaisertown area, and LOVES it. He loves the nice people, change of seasons, etc, etc. He moved from Indiana, a place that he did not like. Hard to believe, but the economy is worse where he came from then in Buffalo. He is STILL trying to sell his nice house there.....nothing is moving, and I've seen cars sell for more then his nice house will end up selling for. With all the negative stuff about Buffalo, it was interesting to see his excitement about moving back here. My son lives in Hamburg, and likes it. Me, I've lived in western NY all my life, and look forward to moving to Florida in 1339 days...... A place is what you make it...life is too short to be miserable. We live in a great country where you can go anywhere....if you don't like a place, leave, and find a place that you like better......but remember, if you are not happy with yourself, you will not be happy anywhere.
