Are people actually moving INTO Buffalo?
I have a love/hate relationship with Buffalo, yet can't get it out of my blood. I came here from a very populated area near NYC, and hated every minute of having to fight traffic to get anywhere. Been here awhile, many years and seen a lot of ups and downs. A friend who moved here from CA about a year ago remarked the other day that he thinks that people are beginning to move into the city. I hadn't really thought about it much, but now that I pay attention, seems that storefronts are filling up more quickly and not sitting for months or years without tenants. As I read through this forum, I also notice a lot of people moving here from other states. I wonder if, although people who are here leave ASAP, if we aren't acquiring a new population of people who have been through the ringer in other states and see the advantages in the slower pace of life and relaxed atmosphere. The city itself is populating a bit more wisely, in building gated communities and loft apartments (LOVE them!). This provides a great incentive in terms of security and self-containment (In-house laundry, fitness centers, etc.) for people to move into areas that were previously ignored because of their lack of accessibility to just about anything. Maybe there is change happening. I am still very cautious, but optimistic. I sure see enough architecture here that has amazing potential. If they would focus more on that, rather than building things that just don't make sense (Bass Pro, ugh), maybe there would be more of an influx. Anyone have insight?

Companies are moving operations into Buff Area
I know that there are companies that are moving back office operations to the Buffalo / Amherst area from NYC and other urban centers to reduce labor costs.
Bad for them, good for Buffalo.

Actually home sales are UP in this area rather then down, thats a fact. It currently is what I would consider a buyers market here - the burbs with the best schooling are in high demand, you can get a 2500 sq ft home starting at 150 and going upwards, in nyc and other areas - its just not happening.

Nobody is moving into Buffalo. The Buffalo school teachers don't live there, the Buffalo police officers don't live there and the fire fighters don't want to live there.
If you want to live in a Buffalo populated community, try any city in the Carolinas, Atlanta, Florida, Nevada etc. Whatever you do, DO NOT LISTEN to the flunky real estate agents on the paid programing radio stations that are pumping up the Elmwood district as the next boom town. Ask these two flunkies where THEY live....it's NOT in Buffalo. Put a fork in Buffalo......it's well past DONE.

You seem to have a significant issue with this area, why are you still here? What is the point of spending your life being miserable?
