You want to become a small, insignificant city much like a small neighbor to our east? You got it.

It's been pointed out before, but the cost to the taxpayer is recouped at least in part through the economic impact the team has on the area.

As taxpayers, we have been subsidizing all kinds of businesses locally. Tens of millions for road improvements for a GM engine plant that keeps laying folks off, tax breaks to entice a former NT Tops grocery store to move to the city of tonawanda, the list goes on.

The Bills are certainly not this area's problem. Otherwise, cities like Rochester, Toledo, etc would be thriving due to lack of a pro sports team.

1) the poeple of toronto do not want the buffalo bills there they rather travel to buffalo reasons are there is no outside drinking anywhere in toronto, there is no parking near the stadium you have to take public transportantion to the staium

2) the commissioner of the NFL is from jamestown NEW YORK and grew up watching the buffalo bills, in which he sated that as long as he is commissioner the buffalo bills will be in buffalo new york.

3) yes a new stadium downtown would help the city grow

Past the size of the city government, I would bet that the population growth would be negligible. Maybe a few hundred people would move into the city, but I strongly doubt it.

Why do you think that the city would grow?

A sports team has NOTHING to do with the relative success of a city. A few cities without a pro football team:

Louisville
San Antonio
Columbus
Memphis
El Paso
Las Vegas
Portland
Virginia Beach
Salt Lake City
Lincoln
Tulsa
Charleston

(By the way Toledo is growing, and it's population is higher than Buffalo's, so I don't get your point, by most metrics, you would say Toledo is a better city)
====

All these cities have HIGHER populations than Buffalo, yet don't have an NFL team (many don't have more than 1 pro team). I'm not saying that an NFL team hurts a city, but in light of the evidence, you can't say that a significant number of people choose to live based on sports teams.

Most choose where to live based on employment -- We aren't losing people because the Bills and Sabres both had lousy seasons again, we are losing people because no one can find a decent job.

Sure, I would love to have the Bills here, but don't be blinded and think that they are what will save Buffalo. They aren't - far from it. What will save Buffalo is saving businesses. But given Erie County's penchant for taxing businesses to the point that they relocate, I doubt that will happen.

To all the people who think that the status quo is OK. You honestly need to shut up. You've had the power here for 50 years, and successfully run Buffalo into the ground. It's time to let people who aren't selfish to run the city. There is an easy 2-step plan to bring Buffalo back.

1) End the massive amounts of regulation in this area
2) Lower taxes across the board, especially for businesses and high income people.

If we do these two things, Buffalo will stem the tide, and return to it's former glory in no time. I won't hold my breath on it, but maybe someday I will come back to Buffalo and see that the city has turned around.

Until that point prepare for a for milestones (250K, 200K, 150K, etc.) Buffalo has the potential to be another Elmira: a city that should be 200,000, with a population less than a quarter of that, all because of the idiot politicians that the never fail to elect.

There would be nowhere for fans to park on the waterside... couldn't even contemplate hosting a superbowl, the road structure couldn't handle it.

Lets keep pumping taxpayers dollars into the stadium we already have... the season is nearly upon us!!! Lets Go Buffalo!!! Come the regular season, there is no better place in the world on a Sunday...

Is this a joke, or your attempt at starting another argument about this (after you lost the first one)?

I like these metrics better than just stating the social conditions alone. I agree with you on taxes and regulations, and is a statewide problem, not just Buffalo alone.

My other concern is if the county would actually use the money for the greater good. What I mean is, would the politicians just shuffle the extra cash around and the county will never see it? Or would the county actually use it for something? If the county drained the money and we still have no stadium, would it be worth it?

I do not 100% agree on why the city declined. Alot of the taxes and regulations were in place during the cities growth. The city and state just went overboard after the growth spurt ended.

Yep! I don't want to go back 1870, and have 10 year olds working 40 hours a week in the coal mine, but I think that we have gone far beyond the useful amount of regulation and taxes... And it just keeps expanding.

No, not a joke. I'd like to see RWS become the Wrigley Field of the NFL... right along with Lambeau Field...

I was never arguing, just giving my personal take, I didn't win or lose.
