I'm boasting, but let's not forget.. Buffalo's economy is the 19th most productive economy per capita in the world. The only city similar in size with a higher economic output is Des Moines, Iowa. Buffalo ranks higher than LA (#20).
Buffalo was ranked #19 in worldwide per capita GDP in 2011 by the Brookings Institution. Hartford was #1. I guess these things fluctuate a lot. And clearly GDP per capita is not the sole measure of a region's economic health.
