Buffalo's skyway, should it stay or go?
For a long time now there has been talk about how Buffalo's Skyway should be torn down bringing the boulavard to ground level which will open up our waterfront area.
I'm hoping this poll will work. Please check one that applies.

I definitely think it should go. It isn't pretty and doesn't do much for B-lo.

That was fast. You must have replied before I finished the poll.

I concur. Tear this monstrosity down!
I don't live in Buffalo, but I've used the skyway several times en route to other areas. If one wants to see the positive aesthetic benefits that arise from doing away with elevated roadways just examine Downtown Boston, where "The Big Dig" might have been a major expensive and time-consuming pain in the rear end, but the end result (save for the shoddy construction practices of course) is wonderful! I think it would be great to have the elevated skyway underground in Buffalo's own big dig and reclaim the above-grade land which was formerly occupied by this for urban green space, which will spur economic investment.

Dangerous, ugly, and expensive to maintain. Do you know it costs $15 million every 10 years just to paint it?

Demolition Time
YES!!! Bring it down. I used to live in Portland, OR and in the 1980's a few forward thinking people organized the effort to tear out the freeway that went right up against the banks of the river thru downtown. Today it is one of the finest waterfront parks you'll see anywhere in the nation....2-plus miles long full of grass, trees, fountains and pedistrian/running paths. Waterfront parks greatly increase a cities quality of life and add to the scenic value of a city.

There's a similar waterfront eyesore in Toronto, known as the Don Valley Parkway. The City some time ago realized that it was ruining the lakefront and have actually taken down a portion of it. I believe Buffalo should do the same.

I voted that Im not sure.. but thats not really it.
I drive over it everyday, and I actually do think its pretty cool and I like the views it gives while you are driving on it. That being said though, I can see where its added expense for the city, its outdated, and is going to be inhibiting some of the other projects they want to get going down on the waterfront (if and when they start them). So I'm ok with it coming down, its probably the right thing to do anyway.

Tear it down and take those ugly grain elevators with it!
Think of it this way, it'll provide jobs to those who have to break it down.
