Default Am I doomed in education?

I've recently moved back to Buffalo after teaching out west for 8 years. I just took a job at a Charter School downtown and I hate it.

If I quit now, would it keep me from getting any other teaching job in Western New York? How bad would it look for me?

I have no idea in answer to your question but may I ask you one? How is the teaching situation in the Buffalo area? I am currently teaching in Arizona but I am from Michigan where there aren't ANY teaching jobs and my husband and I might be moving to Buffalo so I was curious if they are looking for teachers. I would appreciate anything you could tell me!
Good Luck!

I taught almost 30 years for Buffalo Public Schools (I am retired). Consider this: you get the charter kids who get hand-picked and the school can always toss them out if they are a problem. It is a situation where Charters can't lose; the city gets back all the trouble kids. Stick it out with the Charter Schoool for the year. I imagine the biggest problem is that which plagues independents and parochials: administration. (BTW, it plagues public as well)

If you want to consider staying local and want nothing to do w/Buffalo , consider the independents, parochials ( not likely, too many are closing) and also look online for WNYRIC ; it is a consortium of school districts (burbs/rural/BOCES). You can apply to something like 14 districts thru 1 application. The trick is to find out how to do the application. (I just posted the link; never used it, but my school district I live in had the fact for application in the newsletter last week)

WNYRIC Link: WNYRIC

Fullerboss, depending on what you teach, it can be very difficult. There is very little turnover in most districts, so the jobs are few and far between. Unbless of course, you teach math or science.

BuffaloTransplant- thanks for the info. I'm already on WNYRIC. The problem at my charter is that the admin. is terrible about getting rid of disruptive kids. I can't teach because I'm always putting out fires. The way it's explained to me is that kids enter through lottery and cannot be denied access, and once they're in you have to go through the standard paperwork process to get them out. Whether or not that's true, that's what the admin does. I asked about all that before taking the job, but was misled.

Have you EVER had a nice comment on any topic? Why not post on the other boards if you hate WNY?
