Erie County NY losing Population Again
lost 257 last year, officially, but more like they lost over 17,000
since 2010, US Census caught Erie County NY was over estimating (lying)
the amount of immigrates from other country's that were coming to Erie County NY
to off set the 40 years of losing population, There is no way to tract immigrates officially

2014, 922,851
2015 922,578

2010 population was around 920,000
17,000 make believe immigrates from other country's came
but actually Erie County's real population is around 903,000 and when they release 2016 or & 2017 stats
real population will be below 900,000

Actually, before the last census, many places in Upstate NY were under estimated in terms of population. So, it remains to be seen in terms of population until the official 2020 census comes out.

Keep in mind that I believe that there is a penalty for falsifying information to the Federal government. So, I don't know about the county "lying" about its population either, as census information is tied in with Federal funding.

On a related note there was article in the BN four days ago about any county population gains would be negated by Opioid overdoses this year.

The massive population lost is so so oblivious, That's why they closed & shut down 100's & 100's of church's, hospitals, school's, fire station's ,new car dealerships, and just about everything else, There's vacant stores, factory's, office building's & shopping center's everywhere , Even Buffalo's tallest, a 38 floor building, One Seneca is vacant and in bank bankruptcy, The NFL owner's are telling the Bill's to get going on a new stadium ASAP , because the current stadium is not up to NFL standards and is not bringing in the revenue to the NFL from cooperate suites/boxes, Yet the local government keep's ignoring the NFL & all the other serious issues facing WNY and business continues as usual.

PS You notice every time you come to visit Buffalo there's less & less traffic, that's why there even downgrading Expressway's to Parkway's such as 198 because there's less traffic

I don't know about "massive" population losses, but the population is under its peak population. Closing of those facilities may partially be attributed to population, but also to consolidation, newer facilities and even less church attendence.

I believe that Erie County is the 53rd biggest county in the country in population. With that said, governmental structure does have to be looked at including schools, villages and police/fire/water departments.

It's not surprising that any county outside of NYC is declining in any and every respect. With the exception of NYC, every other county is often treated as the state's ugly stepchild. Shame on anyone who joins this thread complaining about the decline of Erie County (or any other county) yet voted for Cuomo.

Erie County population declined starting after 1970, but has shown a slight increase since 2010. The Census recalculates change estimates yearly, and the numbers bounce around a lot, so next year's numbers may show an increase. The bottom line is that overall the county decreased population under every governor since Nelson Rockefeller EXCEPT Andrew Cuomo.

I think it can be argued that Cuomo has done more for Erie County than any governor since Rockefeller. It may be self-serving, but that's the nature of politics. It's about time (40 years!) that Albany finally began to pay attention to Erie County.

Indeed, it's about time that Albany begins paying attention to every county besides/in addition to New York County!

Wait a minute. You mean to tell me that a region with a dismal job market, out-of-control taxes, minimal political representation at the state and national levels, corrupt politicians and police at the local level, incredibly rude people, stuck-up women, lousy sports teams, and even lousier weather happens to lose population year after year? GET OUT!!!!!

It's also worth mentioning that Western NY has an aging population, as evidenced by the declining birthrate that is one of the lowest in the entire country. That's because young people don't want to put down roots in this area. Hmm, I wonder why.
