Human nature.

Kind of like telling your wife and children how ordinary they are, how much prettier and smarter their friends are, and how stupid they are for not recognizing that they are deficient in some way. That its their own fault, and that anyone who really knew what they were like should steer clear. Whatever they do or say is not good enough, and they will never be forgiven for whatever they did or said in the past.

That's not criticism, that's abuse.

For the first time in my 50+ year life, the positive momentum greatly outweighs the negative in WNY, and anyone who did not witness both the downhill slide and the rise of the last few years may be living in an illusion - either wallowing in the past, disconnected from the present, or just imagining a place that doesn't even exist.

Anyone who lives in, or has lived in Buffalo in the last 50 years doesn't need a reminder of what the city's deficiencies were or are - there has been plenty of self-criticism and heaps of abuse and ridicule launched at the city for decades. WE GET IT.

Yes we get excited when buildings that have been empty for 40 years are restored and converted to offices and apartments. Yes we get excited when former industrial areas - vacant for 30 years - get converted to parks, apartments, bars, and shops. Yes we get excited when population decline stabilizes and some years reversed, when birth rate exceeds the death rate and schools are seeing more children, when vacant shops - many for over 20 years - are being filled with new businesses on Main, Grant, Niagara, Amherst, South Park, Bailey, Broadway, Fillmore, Jefferson, and Genesee Streets. Yes we get excited when there is a demand for housing - all over the city - in some areas values increasing well over 100%.

Some people in other cities take such things for granted. The people in Buffalo don't and know that nothing must be taken for granted. Are other cities doing better? Well good for them, at this point I don't care - Buffalo just needs to take care of its own business and people.

So you want to criticize Buffalo go right ahead but please try and make it positive - don't just tell us what is done "wrong", tell us what can be done BETTER.

This x1000. We're seeing good things happen in the city that haven't happened at this level in decades, and there are people who are trying to destroy our excitement by reminding us of all of the other faults we deal with. If you don't see what's wrong with that, I have nothing else to tell you.

Keep living in your make believe and delusional world and keep talking about your positives such as Canalside Park, festivals and Chicken Wings. and keep ignoring the serious issues such as the lack of Public Safety, lack of industry, 40 years of population lost, high taxes, and most of Buffalo looks like a zombie apocalypse has happen

Buffalo hasn't had anywhere near that level of problem, and the worst streets on the East Side of Buffalo aren't anywhere nearly as rough and depressing as a huge chunk of the west side of Baltimore.

The fact that Baltimore spends a big chunk on the glitzy Inner Harbor area, when it has what looks like a nuclear war zone (and a very large one) two miles west, is more hypocritical and problematic to me than anything Buffalo has done, including all the corruption that you rightly pointed out.
Have you spent a lot of time in West Baltimore? Baltimorians usually don't spend much time in West Baltimore unless they live there.

By the way, per capita incomes in Baltimore is 20% higher than in Buffalo. That doesn't make West Baltimore any better but readers shouldn't get the impression that Baltimore is a uniformly poor city. Buffalo has lost 55% of its peak population vs 35% in Baltimore. None of that is any excuse for Baltimore's situation - it should be doing better than it is. Still, sometimes I get tired of people from other troubled cities claim that there problems are minor compared to Baltimore's. The whole world knows about Baltimore's problems. But the lack of publicity doesn't mean that problems don't exist in cities like Buffalo and many others.

Even Niagara Falls Canada has government run ambulance services
with Advanced Life Support Paramedic Level after all, it's almost 2017 not the 1960's
Sure looks Like Buffalo NY & Niagara Falls NY could be the first two US 3rd world cities
