To be honest, there's really no excuse not to have snow tires in Buffalo in January.

I agree, I think it should be required here. Half of the battle with driving this time of year is defending yourself from bad drivers. I think Quebec also requires snows on all 4 wheels. I know many use only 2 snows but this can create problems with control.

And if all used snows, another reason to avoid salting the roads to death, which may be the aspect of winter I hate most.

Grew up in the snow belt and never had an issue with tires. Front wheel drive chevy citation was what I drove in the winter in the 80's.

I always use all season radials, take my time, don't tailgate. Sure, on ice I slip a little - any tire will - but really no issues.

I understand, I used all-seasons for most of my life and got by mostly ok, only started using snow tires past 5-10 years. It is a significant improvement, mainly in those handful of times when conditions are severe. Snow tire technology has really improved, mainly the ability of grip under cold temps. Once I experienced the difference, especially in severe conditions, I was hooked.

Agree tires play a big part in the equation. Tires are rated equal. I've just every brand of tires.

I don't know why everybody is in a huff , meaning what I see in the media . It was a snow storm , it's gonna create some chaos . I left downtown work on the 198 at 2:15 and was home to the eden angola exit by 3 . Had I left 30 mins later I'm sure it would be a different story . From the lakawanna tolls until hamburg exit it was a total white out . I followed a semi at 20mph .
