Keeping with the city of Buffalo's "Green Code", thou nothing really new, there are plenty of 'bike friendly' streets with dedicated bike lanes unlike many of the bike (& pedestrian) unfriendly suburbs to support the environment and make the city even more attractive (in spite of a specific group of nay-sayers most of which are clueless).

And just think no coal required for a energy source.

Slow Roll Buffalo will launch its third season on Monday with a ride to and from Niagara Square.

The basic structure of Slow Roll will continue to be the same for the next six months: Free, guided, round-trip bicycle rides will start at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, from various spots in and around Buffalo.
Rides of about 10 miles will be open to cyclists of all ages and skill levels. Each ride will end with an after-party featuring food, drinks and live entertainment.

New ride host locations this season will include East Parade Avenue on May 8, Massachusetts Avenue Park (May 15), and the Old First Ward (May 22). Popular spots will include the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park on Memorial Day (May 29).

The full schedule will be announced during a preseason party at 5 p.m. April 28 at Flying Bison Brewing Co., 840 Seneca St. More than 50,000 riders participated in the Slow Rolls during the first two seasons.

Slow Roll Buffalo – now formally a part of GObike Buffalo – also will continue to expand its brand this year by presenting more Friday Pedal Parties and Saturday Bike Stampedes, beginning with the Buffalo Marathon Pedal Party at Osteria 166 on May 26, and the Totally Buffalo Bike Stampede at Buffalo RiverWorks on May 27 – both part of a jam-packed schedule of Bike Month events.

“Slow Roll serves as an example and extension of Buffalo’s increases in bicycling and Complete Streets infrastructure, while welcoming riders of all kinds to connect with The City of Good Neighbors in new ways,” Slow Roll Buffalo co-founder Seamus Gallivan said in a news release.

“We’re amazed at the bonds we have built to date and excited to expand every aspect of our operation, from our ever-diversifying ridership to our ever-evolving community outreach.”

One-time registration and ride information can be found at slowrollbuffalo.org. To learn more about GObike Buffalo’s work to create healthy, environmentally sustainable, community friendly options in the greater Buffalo region, visit gobikebuffalo.org.

Default Peace Bridge as another attractioin to bike

With the complete resurfacing of the Peace Bridge started, this will be more bike & pedestrian friendly.

From the Buffalo news:
Quote:
By Robert J. McCarthy Sun, Apr 30, 2017

Bicyclists and pedestrians crossing the Peace Bridge can catch a breath over the next year: Shuttle vans soon will start ferrying them between the United States and Canada.
The south sidewalk of the bridge, facing Lake Erie, will be torn up beginning in mid-June as part of the $100 million rehabilitation of the international span. So until approximately May 15, 2018, those walking and biking across the bridge will be unable to cross in the normal manner. They number about 30,000 people annually.

"The plan is to remove the south sidewalk to rehabilitate the steel beneath,” said Thomas A. Boyle, the Peace Bridge Authority’s chief operating officer. “Once you take out just one section, the sidewalk is done.” As a result, the authority plans to operate shuttle trucks or vans on a regular basis to carry non-vehicular travelers across the bridge. Details have not yet been worked out, Boyle said, but authority officials do not anticipate a major impediment for those crossing on bicycle or foot

General Manager Ron Rienas added that the shuttle probably will operate based on signs posted at either end of the bridge providing cyclists and pedestrians a number to dispatch a van.
“The end result will be much more conducive to pedestrians and cyclists,” Rienas said.
Boyle said the shuttle method was used about a decade ago during sidewalk replacement work.
Crews are currently working on the north lane of the bridge, but that side -- facing the Niagara River -- is not used for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

When completed in 2019, Boyle noted, the reconstructed bridge will feature a new walkway on the south side expanded from less than 5 feet to 8 feet. A barrier will also separate the new sidewalk from vehicular lanes, while a viewing platform overlooking Lake Erie at the exact border line also is planned

Default Bicycle use rental in the city; loads to choose from

Unknown to most car loving suburbanites, there are other ways to get around in the city of Buffalo other than the polluting internal combustion engine.

'Reddy Bikeshare' was started a couple of years ago thru Independent Health as a convenient way to get around by using their bright red bikes (impossible to miss) where you 'pick the bike up at one of their locations, then drop it off at another. There are 48 "hubs' mostly on the West Side (naturally, since it has the highest bike usage anywhere due to the colleges). It's not free, but the yearly pass is a money saver:

Can’t find a Reddy rack? No problem, use any public bike rack in this zone and our mechanics will return the bike to a Reddy rack for you.
- Preferred parking zones: available for your convenience to drop off a bike closer to your destination. Reddy racks outside of the free parking zones will cost a rider $.25 to park. This is an event-based feature in which we will send notifications to members for various events happening around town.
- Public bike racks: park at any public bike rack within city limits for only $2.00. We’ll bring the bike back to a station for you.

Reddy bike is too expensive and they don't offer the bikes in winter months. $8.50/hr? $55/yr (but not really a year). You can buy and maintain a bike for cheaper.

For those that don't want to buy a bike and/or don't have room to 'park' it, it's still a option. The point is it's there.

And I'm sure Europe is even better, neither are as 'car happy' or should I say 'obsessed' as here.
The point is it's steps in the right direction and it's sure better than what is available in the suburbs.

Default Coming Soon: Buffalo CycleBoats

Not exactly a 'bike', but you do pedal;

Quote:
Coming Soon: Buffalo CycleBoats
by Buffalo Rising February 1, 2017

Waterfront enthusiasts will have yet another activity to look forward to this summer. This time it’s in the form of a paddlewheel pontoon boat. The boat seats as many people as a typical pedal pub (14-seat), which means that what you’re looking here is a pedal party on the water.

Brandon Bova is the entrepreneur behind Buffalo CycleBoats. He says that he has been planning the launch of Buffalo’s first CycleBoat for over a year. That’s when he saw a similar craft in Seattle – “I saw a CycleBoat pedal down Lake Union packed full of riders who looked like they were having the time of their lives. That’s when I knew that I had to bring this to the City of Buffalo.” Around that same time, Bova discovered that there was only one manufacturer in the US. Acting promptly, he reached out and secured the rights to the Western New York market, thus putting the pedals in motion. “I grew up on the water with my family and friends. Some of the most memorable moments I’ve had came from being on our family’s boat” said Bova.

Now Bova wants to share those waterfront memories with all of Buffalo, with this unusual craft that gets people out on the water effortlessly. Actually, the only effort that is needed by each crew member is… cycling! That’s what powers the boat of course. Buffalo CycleBoats will be perfect for birthday parties, team building exercises, bachelors/bachelorette parties, family reunions, etc. The watercraft features a large central bar and comfy bench seats for those who don’t feel like pedaling. There’s an electric motor assist powered by solar panels, stereo, drinks, a canopy and other excursion conveniences. For those wondering about the safety of such a self propelled aquatic vehicle, the craft is always under the control of a licensed Master Captain.

“I am excited to bring this one of a kind experience to Buffalo, NY” said Bova. “So many people love the water, but with Buffalo having a short boating season, many residents do not own their own boat. This will give residents and visitors an opportunity to get out on the water and experience Lake Erie from another view”. Buffalo will soon join a dozen other cities around the US in offering this unusual waterfront activity. Buffalo CycleBoats is expected to launch this spring. If you would like experience the waterfront with Buffalo CycleBoats, visit their website at Buffalo CycleBoats | Pedal Boat Tours
