Where in GA are you? We lived in Atlanta for several years before here, and we're considering moving back but have hesitations about the traffic/congestion and the schools...

I live in Hiram (Paulding County - NW GA). I work in midtown Atlanta. Traffic & congestion here is a nightmare! The area is growing too quickly which creates many quality of life issues. It's unfortunate because GA is a beautiful place. I'm planning to move back to the northeast next year (hopefully June 2009); NYC/CT/NJ area. Think carefully before deciding to move back...I'm sure the city has changed alot since you left.

I disagree, lived in Cleveland and loved it. Close enough to visit family in Buffalo, feels like home. If you can find a job there, it is worth consideration. Lived in Columbus too, the economy there is better but I liked Cleveland better. Passed on a job opportunity in Indy and glad we did - very similar to Columbus but further away from Buffalo.

We relocated to NYC and have no regrets. We enjoy living here because of the opportunities for both career and personal growth. This isn't the easiest place to live, but we've adjusted and we're having a great time.
Finding a job long-distance is not easy and with the softening economy, it will become more difficult. Use your family/friend contacts as much as you can.
I've posted before on some of the tips & tricks that worked for me during my long distance job hunt.

Thanks for the link! I've printed it out so both my husband and I can read it.

Why Cleveland? Just curious.
Thanks for all of your stats and input! Very helpful.

That's got to be a hellish commute! We used to live inside the Perimeter, and traffic was bad enough. I can't imagine driving to Midtown every day from up where you are. Wow.

I'll clarify my position concerning Cleveland. I'd avoid Cleveland unless you can land a job prior to moving there. Right now that seems to be your primary motive for picking up stakes and moving. No need to move into an area that might not offer a stronger job market.

I moved from WNY to Albany four years ago and it's more boring than Buffalo, the people are NOT at all friendly like they are in BFLO, they like the Jets or the Giants, and most of them don't even realize Hockey exists! I'm on my way to Colorado soon and I couldn't be anymore excited. All in all, I'm happy to be out of Buffalo because it was depressing, everyone I knew was all of a sudden really into heroin. Weird.

Strange that you say that. There was a discussion on the Pittsburgh forum that a girl started about heroin being used by well educated porfessionals and she was promptly made fun of and then thrown off the forum for voicing that opinion! (Pittsburgh is a rough place. *geesh*)
So that's twice I've heard about heroin in the tri-city area. Hmmmmm.

We would always welcome them back home: Western New York because there's so much to do here all year long. Forgot when you had fun last time?
Come home -- the door for you is always opened.

I agree. I've lived all over the world, and Buffalo represents the BEST of what the world has to offer. I'm not crazy about all the free welfare, but if we could fix that - I think Buffalo would jump right back.
