greyhound bus terminal in Buffalo
Hi -
Due to time and budget constrains, I have awkward travel arrangements that involve arriving to the Ellicott St. bus terminal at 2 am and catching a flight later in the morning. Can anyone tell me what the bus terminal is like - is it well maintained or one of those sleezier ones? Is there lots of traffic or is it pretty deserted? I'm just wondering if it's feasible to crash at the bus station for a couple of hours and head to the airport in the morning.
Thanks!

The bus terminal is downtown... not in the worst section but not the greatest, either. It'll be totally deserted at that hour -- that area of downtown is a ghost town after business shuts down for the day. You'd be better off going directly to the airport and crashing there for a couple of hours. The airport is out in the 'burbs and is pretty nice, as far as these things go.

I agree with not crashing at the terminal. The airport is safer. [[You can get a bus right to the airport. Look up NFTA ( the bus company) The #24 (Genesee) out of the terminal runs to the airport. If there are no buses as you get in too late , it would definitely be safter to get a cab to the airport. Last one I see is about 1:25 am.]]
BTW: There is a hostel on Main St. HI - Buffalo Niagara Hostel :: Hostel to Reserve in the United States
[They have ranked highly in the nation for many years -- met some Europeans kids on an Amtrak who said it was #1 in the country.] The site said if you book w/credit card, you can come in any time. The price is low. OTOH, you might be late for that as well.

Ok, thanks for the advice! It looks like hostel rate and cab fare to the airport is pretty much the same, so I'm going to get a bed at the hostel and then take the bus to the airport in the morning.
Thanks again!

I took the bus exactly one time to cleveland, that was enough.
I envisioned doing some work on my laptop, and being refreshed for the work week ahead (doing some contract work out there).
It was TERRIBLE..
The buffalo station is very ghetto, and attracts inner city dwellers and homeless (I get along with anybody though, I was fine)..
The bus ride stops at every exit on the thruway, so it takes you about twice as long if you just drove yourself.
I would not recommend it unless you have NO other means of transportation.

Check Megabus. They run from the downtown terminal to the airport then direct to NYC, Washington or Boston with only one stop on the way(near Albany). Price is good too.

All bus pickups are downstairs in the "arrivals" area.
Fly jetBlue to Washington instead!

Why don't you just take the train to the Dick road terminal then hop in a cab for the quick ride to the airport? if your ambitious you could walk there, its about two miles tops.
