Hi everyone!
I'm thinking of relocating to the Buffalo area and after doing some research I think I've found the right place for my family and I. We don't want to live too close to the city but close enough to enjoy the culture, restaurants and recreation. Is the Angola-Evans area a decent place to live? Are there enough supermarkets and retail stores in the area to avoid having to drive to the Buffalo or Dunkirk areas? Does the area welcome outsiders? I'm from the south and my wife is from the midwest. Thanks! |

Will you be commuting to Buffalo for your job? I would just caution that the area gets a little harder hit with snow - aka the "south towns" which can make driving into Buffalo a challenge.

I am self employed and will most likely work from home.
My wife will have to commute. What kind of travel time will she be looking at to Buffalo during the snowiest days? |

Angola is on a Thruway exit, it goes right into downtown Buffalo. I have friends who did that as a commute, but personally, I wouldn't want to. There is also Route 5 right along the lakeshore. Angola has lots of little summer cottages that have been there forever... many converted to year round homes; also into Derby. As to shopping, you can go into some of the larger towns in the area for food and small stores, etc. but malls would be Buffalo

Well on the snowiest days the thruway may be closed and she just may not be able to get to work. There is also the issue of getting home if a bad storm hits after she is already there. Is she comfortable driving in bad weather? If not, I would look closer to her work. If she is comfortable driving in bad weather, or her work is flexible and would let her work from home on bad days, then it may be just fine. I think it is a very nice place to live and there will be grocery stores in town and for bigger shopping, McKinley mall and that area have Target and all the retail you could want and that is really not that far away.

Angola has some nice parts, and also some kind of run down areas. There are no major supermarkets/stores in Angola, but there are in the surrounding areas. McKinley Mall is about a 20 minute drive (on the Thruway), and near the Mall you have Target, Borders, PetSmart, Home Depot, BJ's, etc, etc, etc. They are building a new Walmart in Angola, however, so you will have that soon (I can't believe they're tearing down the old drive in ~sigh~) Angola's nice, but in my humble opinion, there are nicer areas. Even Evans/Derby is nicer, I think. |

Location, location, location. The Buffalo south towns have it all. What's important, they are only a few minutes from Buffalo by thruway or skyway. Where you decide to purchse your home is your decision: your money-your choice. However, southtowns like Hamburg, Angola, Derby, Evans have a great lake shore location. There's a town and village of Hamburg where you would do the most of your shopping. They have the biggest shopping attractions compared to Angola-Evans and Derby in size and population. As HamburgGirl mentioned before me, it has McKinley Mall, Wallmart, bookstores, a few supermarkets, including Wegmans and Tops, many pharmacies, ect. Too many too mention. It's loaded with restaurants, parks, ect. Angola-Evans are only five minutes from Hamburg.
Our local location is great. We've got it all. Welcome to southtowns and the Buffalo-Niagara Regions. Great location! Winter snow? What about our skiing resorts only a few minutes down the road! Don't forget: where you decide to live is your choice. Consider all alternatives. Think and plan before you make a move. The local rel estate market is doing great. You have many choices. Best and Welcome, Realtor |

This is good information. On another message board two separate people that currently live in Angola were complaining about the "town mafia" and local government. Is corruption a problem in Angola? How bad are the police in Angola? I've read that in some parts of New York they are very corrupt.

Why worry about politics and police? Are you planning on doing something illegal? Then, think smart.
You should know the meaning of the words poliltics and police. If you understand and want to join the "memebership club" when you relocate, my best advise-start networking as soon as you arrive. Have a chance to coonect even before-do it any way you can! Networking is the key to anything. Listen and pay attention who say what, when, where, and why. Don't forget how they say it. Pay attention to communication process: focus on body language. This way you'll learn a lot. Otherwise, all politics and police begin with a local business (I mean activities). Be yourself and have your own opinion. Personally, I appreciate diversified thoughts. This way the life doesn't look and sound like an isolated island. Bring us more LIFE. Have Fun because LIFE is too short. Best and Welcome to the Buffalo-Niagara Regions. Last edited by zanna vaida; 04-17-2008 at 08:14 PM. Reason: more info |
