Buffalo is also the least valuable franchise in the NFL, if it weren't for our saviors the Pegulas the team would belong gone.

From Buffalo Business First:

No WNY companies on Fortune 500 list, but M&T Bank is awfully close

None of this year’s Fortune 500 companies are based in Western New York, but one Buffalo banking institution got close to making its second appearance on the prestigious list.

M&T Bank Corp. (NYSE: MTB) landed at No. 510 on the 2016 Fortune 500 list based on revenues of nearly $5 billion last year. That’s a big jump from 2015 when the bank was listed at No. 545.

According to Fortune, M&T’s revenues rose 5.5 percent over last year. At the same time, net income increased 1.3 percent, winding up at $1.1 billion.

One likely reason for the bank's one-year leap: the fall acquisition of Hudson City Bancorp Inc. in New Jersey, which added 135 retail offices in the tri-state area.

On Tuesday, M&T spokesperson C. Michael Zabel reiterated the bank’s focus on customers and communities.

“At M&T, our focus is on the size of our commitment to our customers and our community, not on the size of our company,” Zabel said in an email.

M&T is the largest public company in Western New York and one of the area’s largest employers, with approximately 7,000 regional employees. In total, it employs more than 17,000 workers in its eight-state footprint.

According to Business First archives, M&T has made the Fortune 500 list just one time in its 160-year history – in 2007, when it was ranked No. 496.

Topping this year’s Fortune 500 list by a wide margin is Walmart with revenues of $482.1 billion. Its nearest competitors are Exxon Mobil and Apple Inc., whose revenues were $246.2 billion and $233.7 billion, respectively.

According to Fortune, just two Upstate New York companies made this year’s list. Southern Tier manufacturer Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) dropped from No. 297 to No. 313 based on $9.1 billion in revenues last year.

Constellation Brands (NYSE: STZ) rose 100 spots in a single year, winding up at No. 429 with revenues of $6 billion. The ascent reflects the Rochester-area beverage company’s $1 billion acquisition of California craft brewer Ballast Point Brewing in November.
Football is different in that you can get people from a wider area to attend the games. Meaning, attendees come from nearby areas of NY State, southern Ontario and NW Pennsylvania, as it is a one game a week league. So, there could be people from those other areas that could buy a luxury box for said games.

There is also the aspect that the Bills also have one of the lowest ticket prices in the NFL. https://www.cbsnews.com/media/5-leas...an-nfl-game/6/

Its the least expensive because Buffalo is one of the poorest cities NFL cities in the USA. The main reason that football is so popular in Buffalo is because there is little else to do there. I recently moved to Florida and there is so much to do here I don't know where to start. With the cold and snowy weather in Buffalo who feels like going anywhere 6 months of the year. When you are young and healthy its one thing but when you get older its a chore.

You do realize that Football at all levels is huge in Florida, right?

I think the support for the Bills has much to do with the type of supporters for the team in terms of loyalty and I believe that the team has one of the biggest catchments for an NFL team. That goes back to my post about attendees coming from multiple areas to attend games. People forget that Canada's biggest population concentration, the Golden Horseshoe is right across the Niagara River and some come from that area of about 9 million people.

Bills already tryed to get interest from Canada, and played 2 games a year in Toronto, If their was any interest in Canada the Bills would move to Toronto, and you can only go so far south & west and your in other NFL team Markets Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Detriot Lions etc... country

Florida is growing, booming and has lots of wealth and has lots of private investment

Buffalo has none of the above, shrinking, poor, and no private investment. The Bills are on the clock and the NFL & NFL owners have told Pegula time is running out and they want a viable plan on the new stadium yesterday or they will soon be the London Bills or the Austin/San Antonio Bills

For a loser who lives in Florida you sure worry about the region. Seems like you have nothing to do yourself loser. Go on the Florida board and stay there. What a negative loser you are.

Florida is actually really poor in certain areas. All of the big Florida metros (Miami, Orlando, and Tampa) have poverty rates that exceed Buffalo's.

I don't know that we can measure the lifespan of current sports venues based on the lifespans of all the buildings put up in the 1960s through the 1980s that existed before the modern big-money era of pro sports, or were built as multipurpose stadiums that were never going to meet the needs of any of their tenants for long.

Yeah, Buffalo should just be looking at getting a hockey team instead. Let's Go Pens
