Our whole family likes it here. We think there is a lot to do, lots of good places to eat, shopping, the water, concerts, stuff for kids and families, and when you are shopping, doing groceries, etc., you can see a lot of people you know out and about. The schools are good, with Williamsville and Clarence fighting for #1 and #2. Even with all the jokes about Buffalo, I have met many people who came back.
Yes the traffic is horrible! Forget about going into the city on the weekend. The summers were the worst! How funny it is that I am from RVC too. We lived off of Long beach Rd. Where were you?

Thats what Im saying... get over your fears and you might actually like em! Your best thing to do is find yourself a little baby snake and play with it for awhile. He might nip at you at first, and maybe musk you a bit, but I can almost guarantee that after you spend a little time with snakes, you can understand them A LOT more, and your fears will go away. And, if all goes well, you might actually enjoy having them around. I know I LOVE to find snakes in the grass from time to time, they really cheer me up, especially when they stop and stare at me. lol I find them adorable.

I read that you should remove bird feeders because they draw mice. Also I read that if you put lime around the house it might keep them away.

UGHHHHH I must go scream at my hubby now, he put a brid feeder out back!!!!!!!!!! I WANT IT REMOVED ASAP!!
The thing that is getting to me is that I thought moving up here my biggest concern would be the weather and missing my parents, but now this. I have asked my in-laws who have lived here all of their lives and they claimed they have never seen a snake. WHY oh WHY was I the lucky one!!!!!!!

For a job like this, which requires City residency, I'd have to live in the City of Niagara Falls. I understand the Deveau neighborhood is quite nice.

Why did you leave Western New York?

For one thing the Buffalo Metro area is cheaper, slower paced and way less stressful than Long Island. People are more laid back, friendly and less materialistic too. Food and cultural amenities are good by national standards but not quite up to the standards of the NY Metro area. There are lots of good independantly owned restaurants as well as a wide variety of arts, theatre and entertainment for such a relatively small sized metro area. Public transportation is subpar compared to what you may be used to (no LIRR). The positive side is that commuting by car is quick, easy and pleasant; low traffic volumes and less aggressive drivers compared to Long Island. You will actually enjoy going for Sunday afternoon drives again!.

I wouldn't recommend living right in Niagara Falls itself. It is quite economically depressed and has significant number of toxic waste sites. If you want a Long Island type lifestyle I would suggest Williamsville. It has plenty of shopping, a nice Main Street and an upper middle class population. If you want a slower paced and less upscale version of Port Washington close to Niagara Falls, then I would choose Lewiston. It has a nice Main Street, restaurants on the water (like Louie's in Port), many festivals and very close to the Lewiston-Queenston bridge (if you want to hop over to Canada once and awhile)

I think you will enjoy WNY.

I left because:

1. My wife lived there when I met her.

2. Haven't been able to find decent employment in WNY

My wife is willing to move to WNY but nothing has come up (job wise) after several years of trying.

Deveaux is a good area, though if you have kids you may want to send them to private school, the public schools in NF are not the best.

Aren't there decoy mice to put out for snakes so when they go to get the mouse SNAP! they get sliced in two by a slicing snake trap?
