Hi all,
I'll be moving to Buffalo this summer and staying for the next 5 years! I already read the forums extensively and found the info you guys posted super helpful.

I wanted to ask for your advice in two areas:
1) what cell service do you recommend? I currently have t-mobile, and reception is occasionally spotty.

2) barring fios availability, what dsl / cable plans do you use or recommend? Any problems with speed or service outages. I love surfing the net and watching streaming video! Also, if you could post how much you pay for your service plan level, that would be much appreciated [as i start to plan my budget =)]

My whole family has Verizon and we like the service. We have "in" calling so we can all call each other. A lot of their friends have verizon too so they can also call each other. My kids went away to college in Oswego, NY and in Michigan and Florida and we never had a problem with lost calls or anything. I guess there is a new program out for unlimited calling and texting at one price, but I don't know the details.

We use Time Warner Cable for high speed internet and we like it but it is expensive.

Never have had problems except in deep valleys with our Cingular/At&T cellular ( over 8 years)

We are in an area with no FIOS. We have Time Warner Roadrunner.

Like BuffaloTransplant, we have Cingular/AT&T and hardly do have we have any problems. We have 3 phones, unlimited texting, early "free time" (7pm instead of 9pm), and pay for more minutes, for a pretty reasonable price considering the "extras" we've taken on. We usually have a lot of "roll over" minutes, but no matter what their commercial says.... they really do expire, not that we've ever lost roll overs with a teenager on the plan we have

Right now we have a local internet provider, it's dial up, it's slow ... but when we can jocky the finances, we're going to get Road Runner.

The City (Buffalo) will soon be fitting throughout with WiFi. I don't know exactly when off hand, I'll look it up and get back to you, if you'd like.

We have Sprint PCS. No problems service wise. For internet we have time warner (basic road runner wireless) and for cable we have directtv (basic package).
