Default Cheektowaga??

Is Cheektowaga a nice place to buy a home? Looks very suburban.

I lived in cheektowaga for many years - there are good and not so good areas - give me an idea what streets you are considering, i woudl not call it very suburban, it's close enough to the city and yet has a suburban flair...........

Well... not sure yet. I'm browsing the Multiple Listings. Now I'm leaning towards Amherst to locate. Looks like I couldn't go too wrong in that town.

I'm having a heck of a time really on deciding where to live in Buffalo. Do I live near the city or out in Niagara County? is Grand Island advisable? Isn't there a toll? Can't decide...

Grand island does have a toll, and I believe it just went up in price.

Where are you going to work? How far do you want to commute ( time and miles)? Do you want to drive roads or expressways? How much land do you want?

I live on the Lancaster/Alden border and our acreage is in both towns. The drive into downtown is over 20 miles and can be done on the 33 expressway in about 40 min. Roads, it takes longer and you need to know what areas to avoid. We are retired and don't do the drive anymore daily ( thank god!). One daughter works downtown and pays an exorbitant amount to park; she could, however, get a metropass ( bus) from her employer ( quite a few businesses do this) and go to a park-and-ride at the Airport and take the bus in. (She doesn't as she doesn't like the time it runs; she works odd hours).

Cheektowaga , most of Amherst and all the first ring suburbs are small plots of land. I am at the 3rd ring suburbs/start of rural ( cornfield and hay are the other side of my rear lotline) and our 4 acres is a small plot here. Newer homes are on less. You can find homes with good acreage basically anywhere in 3rd ring or rural areas. What you trade is time to work and cost of gas.

If you were going to work at a suburban company like say Greatbach which is on Wehrle Dr in Clarence, I'd say go for the area where I live -- short drive, quiet roads and no highway traffic hassles coming from the south or east of it ( north and west of it is built up and busy)

Toll for people living on Grand Island residents is still 9 cents with EZ Pass, but you still have to put up with traffic on the bridge in the summer.

For all others, the toll is now $1.00 one-way while passing through the Island. (For example, for travelers to go from Buffalo to Niagara Falls and back, it's $2.00 round-trip). Just thought I'd mention that.

I'm currently in the Chicago area, but seeking to relocate to Buffalo. I'm a native NuYawka. I love NY! That's why! Sort of narrowed my search to 1. Amherst / Williamsville 2. Grand Island 3. Lewiston Village 4. Cheektowaga 5. North Buffalo.
Where are the nicest parts of Cheektowaga? I don't want to be too near the airport.
Hamburg is supposed to be a very nice area to live also.

Lose the "New Yawka" when you get here. It doesn't play well w/the locals.
I have been here since the 60s and lost it in the first 6 months here; most people who detect any accent think I am a Canadian
