friedzone is on a distinguished road
One thing I noticed right away was that the horseshoe falls had eroded back about 50 feet from where I remember it from when we visited in the early 60's.

I thought the Canadian border security guard was needlessly hassling me. He wanted to see my credit cards to make sure I was going to spend money before he let me cross. I hope the Sabres always win against the Leafs!

I can't help but wonder why a nice neighborhood like the falls has experienced the urban decay that it has?

Thumbs up expect unexpected

What border (bridge) did you cross? Why did you show him your credit cards? It's outrageous!

When I was crossing a Peace Bridge recently, a border officer asked for my business card. Love passing boarders!! You never know what to expect.

Many people who were born and raised here haven't been to the Falls. And people travel thousand miles from overseas to see this beauty. Can you believe it?

we take the kids every year and enjoy it - but we go to the canadian side, the american side if full of crime imho, and it scares me

I used to work at the falls managing a restaraunt, we had an off duty police officer there on weekends, and that was 15 years ago, I cant imagine it has gotten any better

I feel exactly the same way about the American side and the toxic legacy and urban decay in a truly wonderful part of the country.
It was the Canadian border guard hassling me crossing into Canada. Not only did he ask to see my credit cards, he wanted to see how much cash I had. I hate this type of treatment, who wouldn't?

Thumbs up Feel the Falls

I find the Canadian side commercilized. Where ever you turn you have to spens, spend, spend.
The American Falls site is more attractive to me. When I go there, and I go a lot with foreign visitors, they want to see and enjoy the Falls. It's attraction and sounds.
"Better see it than believe it."
They want to feel the famous Falls. This is how they want to remember their trip.

I was hassled once in 40+ years; it was because I had an orange. I took it over to Canada in a picnic lunch and didn't eat it. You cannot bring citrus back to the US.
Went a few times last year and American were more hassle than Canadian border patrol.

I don't like the carnival atmosphere of the Canadian side ( when I cross, I am going elsewhere). The Niagara Parkway is a lot nicer than the QUE when you get over - more scenic.

I prefer to go to Goat Island (US) and the area near Bridal Veil Falls and 3 Sisters Island. I have never seen a problem
