live in Canada, commute to East Aurora?
I'm interested in working in East Aurora (at Fisher-Price), but would prefer to live in Canada (I am Canadian and my family lives in ON). I was wondering what you think the commute would be like if I lived close to the border? If that is not possible, what is East Aurora like to live in?
Thanks so much!

Live in EA great place. I grew up right there. It is place that has old time charm. The communte after you get past the bridge would be 45 minutes or so. You could get off on Maple Road and blast right into the place. A good friend of mine works there. EA has plenty of water holes and pizza places.

EA is lovely. Being a Canadian, the price won't leave you with sticker shcok. It is fairly expensive. Lots of areas in the vicinity are nice.
Even from Fort Erie, you'd battle the Peace Bridge daily. Not worth it, IMHO.

The village of EA has higher taxes than the town. Expensive compared to what?

Thanks everyone for your comments. It sounds like it is too far of a daily commute to Canada - but it is nice to know that East Aurora is a nice place to live.

[/QUOTwith the prcie of gas NOT coming down anytime soon I'd say that's wise, unless you drive electric...you may see your paycheck get eaten up schlepping back and forth....EA is lovely and pricey, houses maybe SLIGHTLY less than CA, but with the dollar/CAD at parity it's a wash imo...pick up a cheap rental stateside and commute on weekends? just a thought - good luck...

The commute would not be bad at all since you will be going against "traffic" if you can even call it that since Buffalo is pretty much a ghost town as far as a commute on the I-190. If you lived near Ft. Erie, ON then the commute would be 30-45 min absent of any border delays. This is very tolerable especially if you are used to the Toronto area commutes.
I don't blame you for living in Ontario. Wise choice. East Aurora is typical of most suburban-rural areas outside of Buffalo: 99% white, anti-growth, very racist, & a very "isolated" feel. I definitely wouldn't raise my kids in fairy-tale land. Good luck!

The previous response left me with a big smurk on my face. 100%, right on. I worked at Fisher-Price for about 10 years (fabulous employer, btw) but it is Fairy Tale Land. Both FP and East Aurora. If you don't mind paying 8K for your property taxes, want to live in the 1950s, never expose your children to any diversity...it's the place for you. DO NOT misunderstand....it is beautiful and its 50's charm is like a breath of fresh air. Trouble is, the real world creeps in. We left NY for CO 3 yrs ago...property taxes went to $700 per year, including school tax. The sun shines here 75% of the time. I miss my friends, I miss Fisher-Price but you have to be part of the culture to understand it. I choose to see more of the world.

We all appreciate that you made an account and revived a year-old thread to post this valuable information about East Aurora. I definitely agree: who wouldn't choose the booming metropolis of Ft. Erie over boring, white-bread East Aurora? Talk about diversity, according to Wikipedia, Ft. Erie is only 93% Caucasian! And that new growth in Ft. Erie sure beats the **** out of the nationally renowned Arts and Crafts architecture in EA. I mean, those anti-growth nancies in East Aurora even blocked the development of a Wal-Mart in their town. What were they thinking???
To anyone else debating a commute from Ft. Erie to EA, remember that 'keeping it real' on the mean streets of Ft. Erie will make the hour plus commute to fairy tale land well worth the while.

To the rest of the country, I guess. That's valid, but for the record, compared to the rest of Erie County, total taxes in the village of East Aurora are pretty low. Only the village of Akron and Orchard Park are lower. That means taxes in EA are cheaper than the villages of Alden, Springville, Blasdell, Williamsville, Angola, Gowanda, North Collins, Farnham, Kenmore, Sloan and the cities of Buffalo, Lackawanna and Tonawanda.
