Ironically, many disagree, Aurora is now bigger than Buffalo is.

Apparently people prefer these cookie cutter neighborhoods over the dilapidated slums of Buffalo and Lackawanna.

You do realize that the value dropped because 2 years ago the front range of Colorado was ground zero of the foreclosure crisis.
Haha, no it wasn't.

High taxes are bad, but what really gets me is the hopelessness in trying to address the issue. Upstate NY is held hostage by Downstate NY, incompetent politicians and big unions. I find it disheartening that the issues are not being addressed and as a result, NY will continue to decline.

In 2008 Colorado trailed only Nevada, Florida, Arizona & California in foreclosure rates. Since the early 80's Nevada, Arizona & Colorado had been building a house of cards that was doomed to fall & in 2007/2008 it finally did.

..... and that is fine but once again I never compared the area to Lackawanna or the bad sections of Buffalo nor is it an apples to apples comparison. Like I originally said, I'll take Orchard Park, Amherst, Hamburg & East Aurora over Littleton, Aurora etc all day long.

Would you take Denver over Buffalo? Most would, and most do.

There is only one reason why those places are growing and it comes down to the job markets there are hot, at the moment. With that said, it's not like what they are doing isn't going to come full circle. Meaning, many of those jobs are destined to leave or get duplicated in other regions of the country.

Default comparing census data

To the person who put the google link to the census data. It is inaccurate to show "Denver County" and compare it to "Erie County". In Colorado (as in many progressive thinking areas) they combine city/county government. So what is considered Denver County is quite literally the downtown core not a 15-20 mile radius like in Erie County. If you actually did a 15 mile radius of Denver it would probably include at least 5-6 other counties (Adams, Jefferson, Broomfield, Arapahoe, Douglas, etc) . The Denver metro area has approx 2.5 million and that is not including Boulder County which has over 250 000.

If you looked at my first few posts on the subject I said I thought Denver was a fantastic city as well as being superior to Buffalo in many areas (as well as being superior to many US cities). The main things I disliked about Colorado was the traffic, lack of trees/woods & overall green on the front range & high cost of housing (there were several other smaller issues but these were absolute deal breakers for me). Other than that I do prefer the majority of Buffalo's suburbs to Denver's ..... being that I live in the suburbs that is more important to me than city vs city comparisons.

No that I'm pushing people in Buffalo to move here but just to let you know the housing is not as expensive here as it has been in the past. We had researched for a few years before we actually moved and have seen the prices fall. Granted they are expected to go back up when and if the US economy recovers. My whole point is that my $179 000 in Colorado costs us $1000/ month. My property taxes are $1400 per year which is actually considered a high bill for Colorado. There's probably only a few shacks in the city of Buffalo with that low of a tax bill. With ALL (literally ALL) other expenses being lower than in New York specifically the Erie/Niagara area, people in Erie/Niagara need to start asking their local government why they pay so much for everything and get back so little.

It still all depends, because you might be able to get a "good sized" house in the Buffalo area for much less than the Denver area and considering the difference in average price, that might be the case. So, it could actually even out.
