Hense the words of this thread title: $30 driver's license/passport - would you pay it?

While people do fly into & out of other countries where a general passport would be reqired, with this thread though, the interest is if NYS drivers would enhance their license to double as a passport.

Check the US govt passport site. I don't hink you have a prayer if his father refuses. Does he pay any support? Is he your ex? Has he given up parental rights? Those might change the picture, only you'd need a lawyer, I think

No, yes, though we never married and no. He pretty much does nothing, but still has parental rights since he's on the birth certificate. So, i'm thinking i just might have to wait it out until my kid turns 16, which will suck, but i prefer not to go thru any confrontations or drama...

You never married, but he is on the birth cert. and he never paid support? Nice guy. If he never paid support and never married you, how is he even qualified to be a parent?

He's not. Unforturnatley, you don't need to be "qualified" to become a parent. You just need working reproductive organs! It's too bad that I need him to get my son a passport. At the time that I had my son, we were together so naturally I thought it would be in all of our best interests to include him on the birth cert. I never thought it would come back to bite me in the a**.

No. I better renew my passport when it expires in 2015.

P.S To All: Keep focused on the question. Thanks.

Ouch! Can't you go to the courts and ask them to declare him a non-parent? The guy never took care of business, never paid support, didn't marry you ( that might be a blessing). I assume you can prove all that. To me, that is being a non-parent. Why does he care ? He thinks you are splitting for Outer Mongolia?

I have a friend who never put the father on the birth cert. ( she said "unknown" )and another who refused support so she had 100% control raising her child (it was in her divorce). Neither had problems when they took the kids and travelled.... both kids are in late 20s now, though. You didn't NEED a passport.
