I was wondering, what are some nice suburban areas in Buffalo with a good mix of people?

Amherst probably has the best mix of different cultures and is also one of the nicest suburbs. But traffic there can be bad (nothing compared to many other cities in the US, of course).

It depends on where in Cheektowaga... years ago there was an issue with cops profiling black drivers, I dunno if thats the case anymore

Id suggest Amherst/williamsville only cause thats where a lot of transplants live that want to live in the suburbs, so its naturally more diverse. Like a lot of upstate (or just cities in the rust belt in general) you get the whole post white-flight sprawl set up. You'd be completely fine in the most of the suburbs (southtowns etc), yet at the same time, in most of them you'd also probably be the 'token' black family. The most diverse areas are going to be in the city proper. Drive around and see what you like.

The only areas Id seriously say to avoid would be Lovejoy, Kaisertown, and South Buffalo. Not that really you'd want to live in any of them anyway. They are basically poorer/older inner city white neighborhoods, often bordering poorer inner city black neighborhoods (so theres always racial tension BS there).

Use this forum and look up the ethinis/racial makeup of the burbs. Makes it easy to see what is what.

Cheektowaga has 3 school districts: Cheektowaga Central, Cheektowaga/Sloan and Maryvale. The Maryvale area is closer to the city and basically more ethnically mixed. Kenmore village is getting more mixed as older families move out; KenTon is most of the town. Sweethome is the other part; when we had a first home, it was changed to Sweethome district due to overcrowding in KenTon and we moved ( back then it was drug central). The part of Sweethome in Amherst is fairly ethnically mixed.

You need to drive around areas and see what you like and call a realtor who can tell you what areas fit your requirements.
