I'm going to be moving to Buffalo for grad school in the fall. I've been looking at apartments in several neighborhoods, and I'm in a situation where I like an apartment but I'm not sure how safe the neighborhood is.
One apartment is on Benwood Ave, immediately off Main Street. I like the apartment/price/amenities, but I keep hearing that Main Street is not a great area.
Another apartment is on Amherst just off Delaware Avenue - smaller but I think it might be safer.
Third is at the intersection of Summer Street and Elmwood. It's an older house and not as well kept up, but the area seems a bit more student (and young woman) friendly.
There's also a possibility of an apartment in Williamsville, but it's kind of expensive for me.
Any advice? I'm only in Buffalo for a few days, so I need help soon!
What does safety mean to you? Too many young attractive women in Buffalo? Is it distraction or attraction? Safety from whom?
Did you ask people you are staying with right now? I bet you're not here alone. Learn and you'll discover. How did you find the list of available apartments? Aks your referrals for safety refferences.
East of main is going to be the sketchiest.. but probably not too terrible (depending on how far east, and the street). The reason people say what they say is that Main st is the dividing line basically between Downtown and the 'ghetto' (east side)
zanna, I meant that I am a young woman, and I don't want to move someplace where I am going to be afraid to walk around alone. I'm not staying with anyone who lives here, and the only information I've been able to find sort of vaguely names areas to avoid - I'm looking for info on specific streets.
Thanks all - I settled on one in Williamsville (one of the links given).
glad to be of help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
