Default Downtown Buffalo, Marina & Commercial Slip (pictures to see)

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in downtown Buffalo. The weather was perfect, a little on the warm side, with a nice breeze off the lake. When I first heard of the Commercial Slip and other harbor projects, I was a little skeptical about the skyway getting in the way of new progress. Since having seen this new progress that our tax dollars are paying for, I'm impressed, and have changed my thoughts of the skyway as a remaining part of downtown (as the pictures will show).

From the Erie Basin Marina, through the Naval Park and on to the Commercial Slip, there's about two miles of viewing along Lake Erie. For a moment I thought I was in a different city.

While work is still in progress, this new waterfront idea is coming along.

Interesting... I lived a stones throw from there 13 years ago and the place was desolate. I remember The Pier niteclub on the suburb side of the canal, however a majority of the area was not redeveloped.

Glad to see after decades of talk something nice is coming from it.

Miss Buffalo...

Miss Buffalo...
Shanghai Red's is now in the vicinity of the old Craw Daddy's, it's an "up-scale" place of dining, and has been there for many years. The Pier has been closed for several years now. As sad as I am knowing the Aud (and the great memories) will be torn down, a whole new look will come to the Commercial Slip area and Main Street (around the Arena). Desolate indeed, soon to be a thing of the past.

I wish I could say that Buffalo is in the fast-lane of "progress". I had such a great feeling being in my own City and feeling like I was on holiday somewhere else. I've lived here all my life and for the first time, I'm seeing the "Buffalo of tomorrow". Setting aside all of the politics, this is why I love it here so much.

Yes, I do have a shot of the Miss Buffalo (II) I took over 100 pictures.

ocnymonty, I hope this is enough for you to make it back to Buffalo, atleast for a visit.

That lighthouse is beautiful. Do they do tours? It would be cool to get some history on it.

I just went there a few days ago - and took a few hundred pictures as well - It sure will be great once they get the venors/shops/cafe's/restaurants, etc to open along the Central Wharf - boardwalk; hopefully by next year!

Hopefully it'll spark off on new business around the rest of dowtown. You're free to share you pics here if you'd like.

Who says Buffalo doesn't have a beautiful Waterfront? It certainly is taking shape now!
