Anywhere on grant street behind the campus is crack alley, and the surrounding areas.

There are plenty of areas to live in within 20 minutes.

Parking is in very high demand at that campus, its outright terrible.

So the tradeoff would be to pay more money for a place near the elmwood strip (walking distance to school), versus driving in to school every day and paying less in rent..

Default Watch out for the school buses

That block of Elmwood Ave is shared with McKinley High School. I'm not sure if you want to live right on Elmwood, but the side streets in that area are pretty nice.

Default East Amherst is the way to go

Try East Amherst. I live here and its great. A little more expensive but well worth it.

UB has two campuses, neither of which is close to Buff State. Advice about where to live would depend on which campus you're going to attend most of your classes at (north or south). Check on that, and then do a search of the forum.

20 minutes puts you in Amherst, and you won't save anything in rent.

Grant is making a slow comeback- but the housing stock in adjacent neighborhoods is relatively cheap and nondescript. All neighborhoods east of Elmwood are great. Richmond Avenue corridor is hot, and slowly spreading west- folks getting priced out of the Elmwood Village. Plenty of good options within walking distance of Buff State.
