Now there's a good question, cruel doesn't mean much to NYC's residents...

LMAO!
Though, I am sorry to "nj"mike. I'll not dis your state for as much as mine means to me. Of us up here and viewing downstate, NJ is like a suburb of NYS.
To credit, Buffalo's food is nationally telezived, and often, even our wings.

That does bring up a good question I had for the forum. Since Canada is such a close neighbor to Buffalo, how easy is it for an American citizen to work in Canada? Is that common?

Yes, sir. I know Canadians work in Buffalo. But do WNY Americans work in Canada? For example are there Americans who live in Buffalo and work in Toronto and commute every day? I'm asking as I'm wondering if I might be able to work in Canada? Need a visa?

I see, sorry for misunderstanding your post . I'm have less knowlege of that, however i'm sure it can be logical - but only if you want to deal with border traffic every day

Well, yeah, but that won't answer the question which is how easy is it for Americans to work on Canadian soil. The answer is not very. Certainly not without some sort of specialized skill that you can't get just anyone to do. Canadian jobs to non-residents require labour opinion reports by the government and the employer has to be willing to "go to bat" for you enough to jump through all sorts of hoops set up by Ottawa to make sure that they can't just hire any ol' Canadian boy or girl to do that job instead.
Sorry for being a downer here, but I read this forum and consider Buffalo from time to time due to it's proximity to Toronto, a city I enjoyed and ultimately would like to live in. You can probably tell from my European spelling of certain words that I'm already trying to acclimate myself without leaving. However, being an urban dweller type who would prefer to ride transit than drive a car, it seems NYC is more for me (I presently live in one of those faceless sprawling sun belt cities mentioned earlier and hate it), but I keep reading and holding out hope things get better.
But yes, Canada is very aware that their system is more balanced all types of people, while America keeps letting the rich get richer with the optimistic belief that eventually the rich will have so much money that they'll generously donate some to the underclass.
So even though we share a lot of culture and a lot of geography, it's not easy ride for an American to put roots down there anymore. Certainly a labourer background won't get you across. They protect the fruits of their social programmes quite strongly, and so they want the highly educated and highly experienced.
While everyone on both sides winces about sovereignty and giving up immigration rights, I almost feel the "North American Union" with Canada or whatever it's called would be good for the region. Buffalo as the San Diego to Toronto's Los Angeles (so to speak) would be more successful than Buffalo trying to be a big city on it's own.
