I was just recentley visiting family in syr and I drove to your downtown. No projects really going around, kind of depressing. I am moving to downtown Buffalo aug 22nd and let me tell you that projects are plentiful in Buffalo and WNY.

Buffalo always get a bad rap from idiots who have never lived or visited there. They should take a drive downtown and walk around.

They SHOULD! All people who think bad of Buffalo that haven't been here, always are surprised greatly by the downtown we have. Disapointing the reputation we get.

I'm laughing as I read this quote. You wouldn't leave WNY for 4 times your salary and most true WNYers feel the same way?

Buy a $100k home.. or $70k home
Just throwing that out there
And you'd be paying $4,100 per year in taxes on that $100,000 home.

They are actually bringing a good company downtown, building a new Hotel, creating lofts in the Armory and Hanover Square areas, along with others, there's a new mixed use building going up in the Armory Square areas too. So, there are some projects in the works, slowly, but surely. I might be missing some too.

I guess it really is just all about the bux and how much sq feet you can buy.. no matter how awful the community and the surroundings. Case you're gonna be spending most of your time holed up at work, on in your car on some freeway.

I actually feel sorry for people like you
As a 26 yr old native Western New Yorker who left and went to school in Texas (A&M) and now lives in Houston, I thought I should respond to some of what is being talked about. The job opportunities, to put it simply, stink right now due to an unfriendly business climate in the region. I tried after graduation to find something in Rochester or Buffalo but to no avail. It sucks because I loved growing up there and my family is there, but it seems my future is not there. Houston has been wonderful and the city is a great place, but I do miss the seasons and light traffic. I really hope that Western NY can be restored to it's former glory because it is really nice.

O’Brien & Gere will move its international headquarters from its current location in East Syracuse to a Armory Square mixed-use development project that will bring 330 new employees to Downtown Syracuse.
