All the smart people have left. And anyone that hasn't left, but really wants to is just broke or scared and very bitter, haha. I live in Orchard Park, NY. I have never met so many ignorant people in my life. I have had to live here because I moved here when my father got a job here. Now that I've graduated highschool, I am promptly leaving. Downtown Buffalo has its shining moments, but the surrounding suburbs are just depressing. I will not miss the racism, sexism, Bills zubas pants, or the mullets.

The people are cold and indifferent just like the weather. That is atleast my experience.
Hey lib -- You know what? You just don't like the place! Lots of us do!!

We are not "broke, scared or bitter". We are married for a long time, retired from teaching ; my husband has a college degree and I have 3 & and our kids have degrees as well. We have a good income, our house is paid for and all our kids and their spouses and our family have found good jobs here. [Of course, my hubby's family has been in the area since the 1820s, but then again, the way you describe the area, no one has.]

You never wanted to come and I fully expect you tried all you could to hate the place. BTW, I moved her 40+ years ago and found it a heck of a lot nicer than being outside NYC! [That is where my family was from the 1830s] . Good luck finding a place you like

I noticed a lot of the negative people who post on here always ask why those of us who love Buffalo never talk about the bad things....

To all of you who asked that, when you are going on a 1st date do you tell that person about all your flaws? Or maybe your meeting your girlfriends family for the 1st time to you tell her dad about all the pre-marital relations you have been having?

No, and do you know why? Because if you like/love something that much you want to shine.

If you love Buffalo (as much as I do ), you will promote it as much as you can. However, it is good to say some negative things as well - thus seeing the need for change and a better economy and less crime, etc. Through corrupt political standards, and the like, we do need to speak out because WNY does need help. Though we love Buffalo to an excellent extremity, it is important to evidence the need for change and realize that we need to speak out on negative aspects of the city while maintaining a positive attitude in enhancing our city's reputation. Thus, we can talk about how much we absolutley LOVE our hometown, or we can talk change and get the news out there that Buffalo does, in fact need some help in reviving itself to at least its former glory!

I completely agree with you. But, when a negative spin it thrown on something due to just one persons thoughts it is a whole new ball game.

That is over half of liberamulier's comment. I love the snow, I don't mind shoveling my driveway or sidewalk (I have a corner lot.) My wife and myself are both "smart" she is in law-school and I will hopefully be in med-school when I finish my degree. There is no facts in liberamulier's statement, besides the cloudy days and that isn't a fact either. In the winter months there is 80% cloud cover and that is from lake effect snow, there is no way to get around that. Liberamulier does't meantion that fact or that in the summer it is down to 50% and again there isn't much we can do about the clouds that are formed from the Great Lakes.

Let's Go Buffalo!
+1 to both posts.

Walk into Moog, Wilson Greatbatch, Northrup Grunman, Lockheed, Delphi, M&T, or HSBC and tell me there is no smart people there. Just to name a few of the large corporations. Again, answers without facts. People leave for many reasons. But there are countless colleges, universities and private schools in the Buffalo area. With the businesses that are still here you cannot say the entire area is uneducated. Still, people do not know where the area is in decline.

Default Be a patriot, turn your TV and internet off

I'll be the first to point out that replying to this post and acknowledging its significance makes me a hypocrite in some ways to some of the things I say below, but I hope you take my points to heart nevertheless.

In my opinion the fact that Forbes even has a "Fastest Dying Cities" Countdown is pathetic. News organizations that constantly focus on the negatives in our society and the people that give patronage to these organizations make me nauseous. I cannot fathom how some of the posters on this site think its a "good thing" that Buffalo is finally getting "national attention". Who in their right mind would want to get national attention for being the "fastest dying city"? Sounds like insanity to me. This is the last thing Buffalo needs right now. This is the last thing our nation as a whole needs right now. Forbes.com and the people that read it should all be ashamed of themselves. News organzations run these stories to get ratings - but if you think it through its not entirely forbes' fault, its the people who read this filth who are to blame.

I am not trying to compare what we are going through as a country right now to the 1930's, but we need to look to our history, look to the great leaders of our past - what did they do? Our country needs to be ultra positive. We need to tell people like the original poster to keep BS like this to themselves. We don't have time for this - we don't have time for the doom and gloom 24/7/365 news steam coming out of a small group of miserable people in midtown Manhattan.

Do you know why? The people in this country with their heads on straight are not sitting at home watching the news - they are out there making a difference, volunteering, looking for a job, and trying to improve once their communities and great cities like Buffalo and Detriot, etc. They are busy creating innovative new products and services that will improve people's lives and put America back on the right track. They are not sitting at home and pouting and waiting on a "bail out" or hand out from the American government. Do yourself and your country a favor. Turn off the TV. Turn it back on in January - and Republican or Democrat, please show your support for our new president (Republicans - lets not turn the next 4 years into Obama bashing like the last 7 years has been Bush bashing 24/7/365 - we need to come together as a country at this time). After you have shown your patriotism and support for this country by welcoming in the new president, turn the TV back off, stop paying attention to Forbes.com and msn.com and nytimes.com who will always tell us we won't make it and we are destined for failure... and get out there and start making things happen.

I guess if you were ever to Buffalo NY & Erie County NY etc....
You would see why It has a horrible & poor image through out the country. The best thing I ever did was get out of their. It was so depressing their. Lack of jobs, Super super high taxes, high utility
bills, Old & decaying vacant buildings, factorys, plazas & houses everywhere. The roads are crumpling and filled with pot hole's.
The bridge are rusty and crumbling too.
It's so bad there that they have 2 control boards there
that are useless and now NYS is going to raise sale taxes again, cut out STAR Rebates and even tax soft drinks and haircuts. Erie County is also going to raise taxes on top of many towns such as Cheektowaga & Lancaster etc... NYS is also cuting school aid to school districts so their going to raise taxes too. Then their's the weather issues,
7 to 8 months of harsh cold snowy weather. I lived in Las Vegas
which I loved and found a good job there, something I couldn't do in Buffalo. But I got a promotion and recently moved to Phoenix and I
Love it, Love it here I wouldn't even move back to Buffalo for even a million dollars, I hated that place. I do gotta laugh when I read the
Buffalo forums when people their think they actually got something to be
proud of.

Las Vegas is a good place to live and raise a family??? I would take cool weather over a hot city known for its gambling. I wouldnt go to Vegas for a vacation. Gambling has got to be the single largest way to rot your wallet. Your opinions are just that, dislike of weather, and depression are YOUR state of mind. We don't go to Nevada forums are wonder how you can stand 100 degree temperatures? So stop with the stupid comments here.
The bridges are structurally sound, they all have a little rust on them, but so do every bridge from Toronto to Miami. The bridges in NC sure had rust on them. They have to constantly be painted and maintained. The roads have so many potholes from the winter weather, they are still probably maintained more often then southern roads for that reason.
You forget to mention the current sales tax hike has alot to do with the current economy. Patterson is raising alot of the taxes because of the problems on Wall st. Look to the west, Cali isnt doing so hot either.

....Vegas? Hmm... gambling, prostitution, desert. Yeah I don't want anything to do witht that. You are right Cheese, I love how people love to say how horrible things are in Buffalo. I think it makes them feel better about where they live because everywhere in the US things are going down hill. But things are probably going to get worst before they get better ::cough:: taxes ::cough::
There is one medical condition that I know of I don't know what is it called but my great uncle has it and what happens is when you don't get enough sun you get sick. But unless you have that illness Buffalo weather is wonderful. Go to Deleware park with your kids or dogs or whoever and go sledding and play in the fresh snow and tell me that isn't a good time.
