If you're trying for the wine-trail, a little planning is in order. Start here: Welcome to the Cayuga Wine Trail - New York: Finger Lakes Region: wineries, accommodations, dining, attractions, tours and more..., look at the map tab and you will see that there are way too many to try to get to in a weekend (there are more on the other lakes as well).

We decided to camp at Cayuga Lake State Park (I'm cheap, what can I say?). But for the price of the camp site, you get to visit all the state parks in the area. Just driving around, we happened on Taughannock Falls: Taughannock Falls, Ulysses, NY. There's a nice little walk through the gorge and all the way up to the bottom of the falls. Nice.

T O R O N T O !!! Or is this a given for Buffalonians. By the way every Friday night, after 4:30pm, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is half price (11.00) and I stay until closing (9pm). They have a fascinating exhibit on old photographs from the european settlements in Shanghai. On the new wing they had a more recent exhibit on modern Shanghai. I say hello to the mummy skeleton. And I feel pangs of sadness (homesickness?) when I look at the limited displays on maori and aboriginal Australian art and at the poster for my favourite museum in Oz - the Museum of South Australia (the old home state). Happy Memories. Sigh.

You can usually find information on upcoming events in Lewiston at this site:

Chamber of Commerce - Lewiston NY, Youngstown NY, Porter, Ransomville, & Sanborn ..::.. Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce

The Peach Festival just ended, but the Harvest Festival is coming up, as are some other events. They have a nice Christmas-related weekend at the beginning of December, and have even more activities from spring to fall, like garden walks, art festival, jazz festival, etc.

How about photography or hiking? Wait for the first frost and go to Letchworth Park. Wear hiking boots and hike to the upper falls. Anywhere in the park is spectacular for photos.
