12 buttons:

You are right, not many homes are up for sale. I think mainly people who move here stay ( basically, 3 families have owned the same land here forever, and the lots sold off from those farms were sold in the 1950s -- that is when our house was built by one family; we got it about 36 years ago from the builder of the house).

Get hold of the Lancaster and Alden pennysavers. Houses in the area are often listed there. If you want an old home, the village of Lancaster is easier to find one in. Also, look into the many old farms. You should drive down streets like W. Main in Alden ( between Townline and 'the Gazebo' on Broadway in Alden) and the streets north and south off it in the village. If something is for sale, it will be posted/FSBO. This east end of Lancaster/west of Alden is actually called the hamlet of Town Line. You might also ask for that area to look at. As to the cost of homes, old ones (unrenovated) generally go under $125K. One down the road went for $120K a while back (on some acreage) and one north of us went for $95K several years back. Both have been extensively renovated ( they were farmhouses). They can be found. You just have to look.

Default what is alden like

cell phones do work i have never had one problem with mine.As far as farms go dont go complaning of the farms or the water.most homes you will buy have well water.but who cares its home.there is a bunch of places to eat, shop, and there is a lot to do fairs ex ex in the summer. As the one person said this town is a bunch of familys that have been here forever its verry nice.People are nice most of all.as far as EA goes the roads are always messed up i work out there and drive there from alden the people there are nuts and the roads omg.crazy.I will always say nothing will ever compare to the town of alden.ever.i will say if u want to move out here dont be one of those people to move out here next to a farm and take the people that live there to court becouse it stinks.

Lol, excuse me but I am just basing this on my person opinons, etc. I love Alden a lot but I'm just saying that I didn't get much cell phone reception in and around the town and it is a bit out there - but not by much .

We love WNY!

I was born in E. Aurora and lived there until I was in high school. We moved to Marilla that summer and I went to high school in Alden. Totally completely different towns. Alden = rural. East Aurora = suburban / old village / yuppie. Both have their plusses and minuses. I happened to play viola and was really upset when I found out that the high school I would be going to had no orchestra.

Great post, BuffaloTransplant. You are right, Alden is very different from East Aurora. Although yuppie isn't the right word for EA (because it's not urban) I know what you mean. Very strange people in that town. If I was going to live in a Buffalo exurb Alden seems much more comfortable.
