Advice on moving to Niagara Falls
I am reviewing a possible position at the Air Force Reserve Base just north of the Niagara Falls Int'l Airport - I would like a short commute but as a college grad 20 something single male would like a quality area with quality people (both for friendship and courtship).
Any Suggestions on where I should live, concerns I should have, etc general advice on the area?
Risk of Canadian invasion - I hear those Canuks can be crafty...lol...J/k

FYI - I am relocating from quite a ways a way and I have a current position i can hold onto until I need to move
The area i currently live in is extremely isolated and has few to no quality ppl my age - I am not bound to any area or state and am basically willing to live anywhere in the country so long as provides better opportunites for meeting and interacting with people
so if you think the area and the problems of the larger Niagara-Buffalo area are too great and that I should keep job searching until I find a postion in a better/higher growth area let me know

If your looking for a short commute you might check out Wheatfield, Grand Island or the Tonawandas. Kinda split the difference between work and Downtown Buffalo. All are good communities.

Its a section of the city of Buffalo, so it is in Buffalo, NY. Lots of unique buildings and home and younger families moving in.

Allentown looks like too long of a commute and too great of risk of getting stuck behind an accident...
Am I going to need to worry about Flood Insurance in Wheatfield or Tonawandas

What about Kenmore, Lockport, the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls or Lewiston?

Wherever you go, the town engineering dept. of the town has to be able to provide you with info on flood plains. I lived in Tona. and didn't need any flood insurance -- but several blocks south often flooded. Now I live on the Lanc/Alden border and some people here need it, some don't; it is all relevant to the exact location. When you find a place call the town building dept ( better yet, go there) and check the lot.

My advice is don't move to Niagara Falls. It is an arm pit. Who ever told you Allentown, is misleading you. It is a neighborhood in the city of Buffalo, it is wrought with bums, beggars and theives. It is great for nightlife and the artsy, bohemian crowd. The Elmwood village is the place for the young single adults. Diverse, walking commerce, resturants, nightlife and great housing. (20 minute drive to the base)
