Default Getting hired into Buffalo Construction

Hi ya'll,

I'm so excited! It looks like Buffalo is on the way up again! I have a few more questions. My husband has about ten years experience in construction. However, it has been mostly building houses, not high rises. He doesn't have steel work experience, but has built houses on the side of a mountain. So I guess my question is, where is the best place to get info on these companies doing the building? Do they advertise for help in the newspapers( if so, which ones) or are they union jobs, and if so,how does that work? Here in NC, they don't really advertise in the papers they use a state agency for the most part.

Sorry to ask stupid questions, but we have made a wrong move before and really want to do it the right way this time. So any advice / info will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marian

I would think whoever owns the skyscraper would subcontract, and you would need to go through that company. Maybe city hall could give answers on whoes doing the building?

Generally commercial construction projects are put out to bid state and even nation wide so the General Contractor might not be local. The big players in buffalo are Ciminelli and Benderson. Both are union companies (Ciminelli has the non union ADF) If your husband has residential construction background that is the way he should go. The new home building is slow right now due to the economy downturn, but there is a few bigger builders still building (Patrick being one). There are a few really good residential remodelers that pay well if he has skills. (Kaz Brothers is probably the best of them, they are ranked in the top 200 nationwide). In any case Buffalo has a mostly old housing stock so there is plenty of home improvement type jobs if you are talented.
