Pizza & wings.... Pizza & wings.....
There's more to Buffalo's great food than pizza & wings.
Let this be a thread of the other foods that make Buffalo great. (pictures are optional) Share with us your best in Buffalo and why. Local places, local menus.
Today .... home-made subs on fresh Costanzo's Rolls. There's nothing like opening a bag of rolls and smelling like you just walked into a bakery.
Here is stuff in from my fridge... and I live in Brooklyn!
I'm speaking more on behalf of my wife here. She will go to the ends of the earth for these things, as well as Weber's mustard. I'm not such a connoisseur of hot dogs and chip dip. She has 'care packages' of Sahlen's sent from family and friends.
Yesterday, we actually drove 45 minutes and paid $18 in tolls just to go to Wegman's. The nearest one is in Woodbridge, NJ. There is nothing like Wegman's anywhere in NYC. She was thrilled to see Bison chip dip and Weber's mustard on the shelf there, but disappointed that there was no Sahlen's. We also found Chiavetta's sauce and Olympic Greek dressing.

Unfortunately the ones I loved growing up here are no longer..Gressmans Bakery,(bapka and apple strudel) Freddie's Doughnuts (peanut sticks!),
the apple dumpling with hot vanilla sauce at Kresge's, still we have Fowlers Chocolates, and the bakeries on Niagara for the crusty bread...I don't remember the other bakeries at the Broadway market...anybody remember some of the old German and Polish bakeries mostly on the East side?
Laughlin's on Franklin downtown is a great place for Beef on weck. Outside the city, I prefer Eckl's Beef and Weck Restaurant in Orchard Park as well as Charlie the Butcher in Williamsville - it also has some fabulous Beef on Weck as well. You can't beat Beef on Weck in WNY! Born here and they still do it the best at local locations and restaurants.
