Default looking for contact info for Buffalo archives - to find long lost great grandmother

Hello

I am trying to find any information I can on my great grandmother. My great grandfather Aldore/Aldan Melanson came to Buffalo from New Brunswick in the early 1920's as a motor mechanic and worked at the GM plant. He married a woman from Buffalo name Helen Irene Busack/Buczak? (not sure of spelling) and they had one child, my grandfather Vernon Norman Melanson born on Dec 20, 1928. She died during childbirth and I have absolutely no further information about her at all. I am wondering if someone could possibly point me in the right direction ...towards perhaps some names of the old local cemetaries, name of a hospital or where I might find a death certificate or birth certificate for my grandfather? I believe they were married in Buffalo too so a marriage certificate might exist somewhere too. I am not familiar with the names of older churches in the area, If someone could give me direction to which churches/achives I could contact to find out if any records of my great great grandparents exist. I am a memeber of Ancestry.ca but they haven't transcribed many Buffalo records yet, therefore my searches come up empty. I know this is somewhat of a random request, but as I was trying to find information on the General Motors plant in Buffalo during the 1920's I came across this forum. For some reason I felt like someone on this forum might be able to point me in the right direction. Thank you so much for your time! any insights at all would be greatly appreciated!

All of the old Buffalo newspapers are held at the Central Library in downtown Buffalo, unfortunately they don't have a digital/searchable archive available online, but you might be able to find more information by contacting the library. HTH

Did you try the 1920 Buffalo Census? How about the 1930 census under just his name -- the son would be listed. Ancestry is good on that.

From your g-grandmother's last name, I am expecting she was probably Polish and Roman Catholic; contact the Diocese of Buffalo for a possible marriage license and baptismal; many older churches are closed and/or/merged and the Diocese has the records.

Also, try the NY State censuses. You might need to go to the State Library in Albany to get the data, only I think Melanson is not a common name and you might get lucky.

City records for this time period are in an archive; you cannot get them at City Hall.
