Buffalo from NY
Hello,
I am from Buffalo and now live in Queens NY. Opposite of your situation and I would like to give you my opinion on moving to the Buffalo area. DO NOT MOVE TO SOUTH BUFFALO!!!! IT is a gorgeous area in western NY, but being African American your family would not be comfortable. The same goes for the Cheektowaga area. I left two years ago, but I am sure that things aren't that much different. The area in which you should consider is North Buffalo--near the Buffalo Zoo. That is a very diverse up scale area with beautiful homes. It has a mix of races with mostly working class people who are not rude at all. I am not sure what borough you are from in NY,but the area that I am considering in Buffalo is pretty much like Queens, NY. Another area if you want to live outside of Buffalo is Amherst or even Getsville NY--they are both in the suburban are which also has nice homes. Both weren't very diverse years ago,but they are now and more and more African Americans are moving to those areas as well (working people).
Let me know if I can be of anymore assistance to you and your family.

Lived here all my life and let me suggest East Amherst, NY
Taxes are high regardless of where you go but thats the cream of the crop area, great schools, safe neighborhood, little to no crime. Just cold here but same as where you are so really no difference in that department.

I found one house at West. Delavan Avenue, Buffalo, NY.
Is this a good area to live ?
Thanks in advance for your opinion.

You should really think about close to 80 mile (one way) daily commute in mid-winter if you wanted to live in the Buffalo area. [Our gas is about what you pay in the NY area.] You might look into Olean, Jamestown or even down to Bradford Pa. for a small city area if that is what you are looking for. I have no idea of the ethnicity there, but Jamestown seems rather diverse [and is great in the summer.] With a child ready for college, Olean is closer to Fredonia ( a SUNY College) and several other schools, notably St. Bonaventure -- should you want that child to be home. [Consider the state colleges, at least for a year or two -- they are less expensive]. If your husband really wants to drive the almost 80 miles a day each way, maybe he should check it out before you come... we used to do 40 a day (total) and that was into the city ... in bad weather, it isn't fun.

311X. I rented a home at 299 West Delavan for a while. I did not experience any problems while living there nor do I believe did the neighbors. If you stay east of Grant I think you'll be fine. West of Grant I hear can be a little rough though I don't recall any violent crime taking place over there while I was there.

I'll second that. Also consider Clarence for lower tax than Amherst.

I agree, Clarence is a good fit as well. Obviously you know I do real estate, that being said those areas are the safest and nicest in the area and are generally diverse. I am also fond of them, because I live in that area and utilize the school system as well as all the other great perks around here.
If you want some personalized info, feel free to send me a direct message about the area, schools etc......its a suburb feel, but imho you get the most bang for your buck.
