Yes the elections are already done and most of them are here for another 2 years but now is the time to start letting them know if they want another term they better start looking into what is best for the state/county/city or we will find someone else who will.

The other thing we have is a totally corrupt political machine, passed only by, perhaps, Chicago's. We need to clean it badly... that is sad when for years you try and it doesn't happen. Get our politicians to do something for us? Good grief, all the power is down in NY.

Haven't you ever "run the numbers" and realized that?

Downstate only pays Upstate lip service. In their heart, they could care less about us!

BuffaloTransplant, I'm surprised the Buffalo area voted so heavily red. All five counties surrounding the Syracuse area went blue this year...even Madison County. Obama won every large suburban town outside Syracuse.

You are both right, but do you think the people living in NYC like being taxed the way they do? Do you think they enjoy the corruption? So you are saying all of the people in NYC are power? No, they are not they hate the corruption and taxes as much as we do.
I completely understand what you are both saying, but the fact of the matter is there is more people in the state of New York that don't like how things are going they just won't stand up and say something. The "Elite" can be removed no one is to powerful to be replaced.

Actually all three of you are wrong.

Let me ask everyone this. If you are unhappy with the direction Upstate NY is headed, how far would you go to turn it around? I am serious, I want to know. What would you actually do to change Buffalo, a city you may have been born and raised in to become the thriving city it once was?
But here's to just complaining about Buffalo

Default High Expectations

We may be expecting too much from the Queen City. It's been on a decline since 1959 when the St. Lawrence Seaway trumped the Erie Canal. I for one won't hold my breath waiting for changes to occur. We need to position ourselves the best we can to thrive in this climate. I just want our leaders to get out of the way.

Simple facts:
  • Niagara Falls Ontario draws millions of people a year
  • Those people spend money
  • Fort Erie will be constructing a NASCAR track attracting thousands of people from the U.S. that will need to drive right through Buffalo to get there.
  • Those people spend money
  • The Seneca would like to construct a new Casino and Hotel complex that may attract those people to spend some money here.
Yet, the obstructionists are putting the kaabosh on the project. I'll bet Bass Pro's decision to open a location here in Buffalo hinged on that Casino complex being built.

As much as I love the City of Buffalo, we all know the reputation it has across the country. That being said, would CEO's of fortune 500 companies even consider Buffalo for relocation or expansion?

My idea, if feasable, would be to convert the old Bethlehem Steel complex into a seaport where cargo could be shipped and loaded onto trucks and rail and distributed across this great land. The container cost would be a fraction of the cost of NY's seaport, and would create possibly hundreds of good paying jobs with a secure future.

Sorry... I must have been drinking to much Kool-Aid

This is exactly what I mean...its all talk, nothing happens. So what are we actually going to do. Right now everyone sits on their couch and waits for snow.

I would let any business that wants to build here, come here. There were companies that wanted to build on the waterfront by South Buffalo, then all of a sudden individuals were worried about these historic sites and it died out. Buffalo needs to look towards the future, and not try to hold unto the past so much, when it can barely stay afloat today.

I grew up down by NYC and my family was from NYC and I moved here 40 years ago and never left. I also never looked back.

While Buffalo is corrupt, NYC is worse. The cost of living is insane and so are house prices. I would never move back.

Yes that is one of the things that killed Buffalo was when they put in the subway. Main Street was lost. I still remember Grants and AM&A's especially at Christmas.

How are we all wrong? It is impossible to get anything done in NY without complants. I would be doing something right now except for the fact I am in Africa keep everyone who is posting in this forum safe.

Also a side note the forum is "what would you do" not "what are you doing" Rome wasn't built in a day and Buffalo isn't going to get fixed in a day.
