What keeps Buffalo alive?
I'm not talking suburbs, I'm not talking all of Western New York, Let's talk Buffalo!
There's so much life in Buffalo, so what keeps us alive? Is it the friendly people? Is it mom & pop food shops? Non-chain restaurants?
Buffalo has so many great things, share your thoughts. (negativity need not apply, thank you)

Bustling 24/7 Elmwood Avenue keeps Buffalo alive and well in the commercial and retail venues while lots of people crowd the streets as well as lights and liveliness that overflows this bustling, growing part of Buffalo. Main Street is coming back, as Shea's and the theatre district with the restaurants are creating masses of people and entertainment for thousands of people every day. Oviously the "Chip Strip" makes Buffalo known for its lively entertainment that constantly creates traffic in people and vehicular sectors.
There are indeed MANY great things about Buffalo - and many things that keep it alive. World, please come to Buffalo and see the liveliness and stop listening to all that negativity.
Great thread, FedupWNY!

Buffalo is alive because all 288,000 people can't move out at one time. I know you love to push Buffalo and I love the buildings but losing population steadily is not being kept alive. Detroit is the same way - sure they still have 800,000 people but like Buffalo when they get an opportunity --- they leave. Buffalo has had a steady loss just about every year since it peaked in 1946- your threads are not going to make a dent in that trend.
Having said that Buffalo's food is ok but so is the food in many places.
The people are friendly but the same is also true in many places- I never have to lock my doors.
When people are able to move - they overwhelmingly go to warmer climates- this doesn't help any of the rest belt cities.
What Buffalo has is a wealth of great old buildings! I love them! As I've said in other posts the TAXES are killers and when you kill investment you kill the town.

Kill joy Way to go! Because you have no positive outlook, then no one should. How many more "hate on Buffalo" posts must we have to endure this week?

How foolish of you to believe that some people may actually LIKE living in Buffalo and wouldn't pack up and move "if they could". Because you know...there are actually chains on everyone's ankle in Buffalo and throughout the north that keeps all of us poor soles trapped in this place that nobody wants to live.

How dare ye post your bashing comments on this great thread. This is for Buffalo supporters only, not for those who wish to have a bleak outlook on this great city. I'm sure you are misunderstanding many things, do some more research and find out what is true about the All-American city of Buffalo, New York.

Research?????? Buffalo lost half its population since 1946-- I dare you to show me otherwise. Let's see your research Buffalo4life! Misinformed there are even some people who like to be in jail, however when people get a chance to leave Buffalo - most ( not all do). For 40 years people have tried to keep others or attract others to Buffalo - it hasn't and won't work.
You guys are so defensive and so out of touch - you don't even realize I'm someone who likes Buffalo.

Have you realized that Buffalo has stopped losing population? Have you realized we are seeing the largest boom in development the city has seen since the early 1900's? Have you realized that jobs ARE coming back and people are believing in this city!? You may like Buffalo, but please, today is different then 15 years ago. You are basing your facts on old statistics. . We would like to hear today's please.
Buffalo is alive, well, and growing. Sure it has its problems, but so does every other city. I love it here, FedupWNY loves it here, etc. I guarentee people live here because they want to live here, they relocate here and love it. Some people can't take the cold, so they leave for a warmer climate or a better job. Us Buffalonians that have good jobs, are trying to stay here for as long as we can to be apart of Buffalo's boom. Thus my reasoning for being a Buffalonian for life!
(Don't get me wrong! Buffalo still has a long way to go, but it's not going to get any better with a negative reputation like what you are giving it. ) Please see beyond the negative, and have some optimism and passion for this great city. Perhaps you can join us Buffalonians in contributing to the rise of Buffalo after its fall from the past 40 years or so, instead of bashing what has happened. What is happening and what will happen is the key here, this is where we need to focus. We learn from the past and carry on - that's what makes a true Buffalonian.
