The School of Education at Canisius College works closely with Tapestry as part of a system creating professional development tracks for teachers. I've had to visit Tapestry and liked it. I like what they do as far as making learning exploratory rather than have kids sit and take notes from a lecture.

But it is kind of scary. Since classes are a bit more open-ended, discipline becomes an issue, and engagement of students can be a major effort. Being in college, I'm more of the idea that classroom management is not something I have to be overly concerned with - but in a place like Tapestry where students are meant to explore, engagement and classroom management becomes a major part of any lesson plan.

I like what Tapestry is doing, but I don't know if I could do it myself. Your wife must have a lot of patience.

I admit I do think they do have some progressive ideas. My wife enjoys her job but truthfully would like her own classroom. Right now she is a spanish teacher. She actually graduated from Canisus College a few years ago.
