Thanks Buffalonian. I'll make the metro rail downtown free again too.

Woo! Now there's a campaigning idea . Just fire the NFTA, we need a new transportation service around here...This one is becoming too corrupt anyway .

Buffalo needs a lot of employment changes. Obviously someone is doing something right because construction has begun on many projects. I still need to get my degree before I even think about ever running for any office. Or I could just be on entreponuer start something new. Maybe get the founding to buy some of these abandon buildings and turn them around and rent them out to businesses. Or start a business to clean the "grim" off our downtown buildings.

You sound like me , those things that you have mentioned have always stuck with me as things I truly want to do and accomplish. It's exciting with all the possibilities within this great city.

I think it's fine how it is. I like this sky line because it's one of the only bigger cities in the US that doesn't have a huge skyline, it gives it more of a small town feel!

But who would want the city to stay stagnant like that? I'm just being the "enemy" here to try and get some more information to back up why you feel this way - to futher get various people's opinions and take them into consideration as I follow them through.
Now, care to expand more on your reasoning? I am indeed greatly interested as to why you feel this way as per Buffalo's skyline remaining how it is (which it is nice currently, yet IMO could get something more), so please, enlighten us to this small town feel that endorces your humble opinion.

Or... would you support just a few high rises that entice the skyline by adding a modern touch in which makes us look aesthetically correct - but with buildings that no other city could match - unique to Buffalo .....?

Of course I support new development, though I don't support a skyline that I don't recognize as my own city. Big buildings and fancy glass won't change the Buffalo that we are in downtown. When I was in Philadelphia, I found a remarkable place called Logan Square. If anyone hasn't been there, it's a huge circular and very unique water fountain set in the heart of (their) downtown. To explain the sighting is to imagine (our) Lafayette Square four times it's size. An open, spacious area where I caught a glimps of people sitting, reading, relaxing, taking a break from the summer sun, enjoying summer fun. I thought to myself "if only we had this back home" until I watched locals walk by like this work of art was nbd. The sight of Logan Square is one that will always remain as a memory of my visiting Philadelphia.
I have long felt that downtown Buffalo doesn't have to be just like other cities, skyrises to block the sun, streets that look like mazes. I'd like the view of green space, open space, a place where people want to come and relax with a good book on a summer's day. It wouldn't mean I want Main Street to remain one vacancy after another, I just feel big buildings alone won't be the "sure bet" of a successful Buffalo.
If a company can take rent on a floor of a skyrise, why not take a vacant flat level down on Main Street? I keep looking at the pictures and I can't get the question out of my head, how's going to pay for it? Bass Pro is going to build here but helped with the expense of taxpayer money. This is the type of development I'm not supportive of. I accept it because it will happen, but we're paying for it. Of course, we can dream all day long of new investments to the city, and it is great, but in no way should Buffalo become another city in hopes of skyrises to keep it alive. It doesn't mean that I don't want to see changes in Buffalo, it's heartbreaking to see it as it is now.
B4L, your passion for Buffalo is as mine, to see a better tomorrow in the city, if to have a unique downtown though, I'd hope for green space instead of the 20-year vacancies.
If I've said too much, looking back on the poll, What Does the Buffalo Skyline Need? The options gives us an opinion to share, right? - More height and density
- modern glass and statement skyscrapers
- It's fine how it is
- Something uniquely Buffalo in the skyline
- Other - Please specify in post!
