My brother was laid off and can't find a job, and he can't even get hired for an hourly job (Home Depot, Wegman's, etc.) because they take one look at his education/work history, etc., and they know he's not there to stay.

that being said, perhaps he should look into the management opportunities at wegmans etc............. In the top 100 companies to work for in the us

Hourly or Salary jobs can be found. Eliminate things from your resume that might lead employers to believe that you are going to bail at the first decent opportunity. Joining BNI networking groups is key to establishing relationships with people. Making freinds helps you get jobs. Keep your head up

Same here, I have been looking for work in Buffalo area (salary paying) for the past 2 years in the research/medical sector..but have found nothing. I have contacts in Roswell and UB, they have tried but no one seems to be hiring.
Anyway, finally I had an interview this Friday at UB (S. Campus)..so keeping my fingers crossed. I have been commuting from baltimore every weekend as my husband works in buffalo. It is a tough market out there with all the hiring freezer. But I think finding an hourly job should not be that difficult. You just have to tweak your resume.

I've been looking into Wegman's myself, but the corporate/management jobs seem to be in Rochester, and his 4 kids are here -- he's divorced and doesn't see them very much as it is, so he'd definitely prefer to stay local. But of course, if things don't get better, he'll have to look farther afield.
Thanks, though!

Thanks for posting the job sites, ckthankgod. I have most of those on the list that I check 3-4 times a week, but some of them were new to me. :-)

yes the main office is in Rochester, which really depending on what they are paying is only a 45 minute drive

ive worked at wegmans for years part time as ive been in college, and to get a management job is pretty hard. they tend to promote from within and it's more of who you know, who's favorite are you environment, like most work places are. and about two years ago they changed the management structure in wegmans stores. for example, in my department, natures market, once the nature's market manager left to take a position with a new company, my new manager was called nature's market team leader. they are doing this for a lot of departments in the store. and to become a manager, they want people to be team leaders (the person in charge) of different departments first, so you can imagine how long this will take and the competition among people in that particular store as well as other stores for the small number of managerial positions. when they changed the structure, my friend's dad who has been the night manager for years was actually demoted but he really had no choice if he wanted to keep his job. as for the managerial positions in rochester, i am not sure. good luck.
