Job Market
Hi! My family and I are considering moving to the Buffalo area. Can anyone tell me what major employers are in the area? My husband is in law enforcement but is open to anything. Are there any distribution plants there at all? Our main focus is school at this point, we just need to pay the bills.

What brings you to the area? Have you been here before?

If you can stand call center jobs, then geico is for you.
Its a pretty tough place to work from what my friends tell me.

Yeah, my brother works a geico and he isn't happy there either, been screwed out of a few promotions and things like that. Wegman's is one of the top companies to work for in the country, I don't know what jobs are open and what they pay, but I know they are very good to their employees

There is always work in Buffalo. If you intereview well have good work ethic and enthusiasm you will stay employed and make a fair wage. It might not be in the feild of your choice right away, but ultimately with determanation and patience you will be fine.

Today, Hunt Real Estate announced that the Buffalo Niagara region is the 2nd fastest growing business economy in the world. That, my friends is a sign of a great future job market. No lie.
It is currently the 99th strongest economy in the world as well.

I hope that claims true, the value of my income property will go up then.
Honestly, I have been looking out in Arizona for a job, just for comparison I checked jobs on Indeed near Buffalo.
After 20 pages of fake "work at home" jobs, I finally gave up.
Sorry, but I don't consider 10-12 dollar per hour data entry to be a real job either. Bill collecting seems to be the hottest job sector around here. I can't stomach that..

Are you talking about jobs that pay salaries, or jobs that pay by the hour? My husband was laid off in February, and he still hasn't found another job in Buffalo. He's had some interviews and done well, his references have checked out, the recruiters are always very enthusiastic about him.... but most of the companies are in hiring freezes, or have other reasons they can't make a move right now. Luckily he found a great job out of state and commutes, but how long can we continue to do that?
I was laid off in January and haven't found anything yet, either, although I haven't been looking as hard because I need to find something part-time that suits our kids' needs. But I'd say I've seen only about 6 jobs that I'd even remotely qualify for in that time.
My brother was laid off and can't find a job, and he can't even get hired for an hourly job (Home Depot, Wegman's, etc.) because they take one look at his education/work history, etc., and they know he's not there to stay.
Getting a job around here takes a lot more than determination and patience, my friend. If I knew what it took, I'd share (after hubby and I both got jobs, of course!)
