Yes, yes, yes!

I've had the same experience with Montreal. After my visit to Montreal you realize that Upstate NY's inferiority complex is all in our heads. The local media and the prevalent blue collar mentality have really held back civic pride in the Syracuse area. Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City are all much colder than the Syracuse area, have longer winters and have similar snowfall....Quebec City averages 130 inches of snow each year....yet they are sophisticated, modern, beautiful cities with a cultured population. If I had to move anywhere I probably move north to Canada rather to the over-hyped sunbelt.

I hear ya, I've been in Quebec city in the winter also and it's another notch of cold over Montreal, but jeez what a beautiful city that also embraces winter instead of whining. I think MisInformed is right that this is true probably because Canada is mostly a cold climate, but on the other hand, most of the US population lives in the colder north and in the north central (Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc.) parts and in the rural parts of the NY, people are much like Canadians, very hearty and proud. I wish Buffalo was more like this, people here seem overly concerned about what the rest of the country thinks.
