Default The 'dreadful' weather... seriously

I read it over and over in this forum about Buffalo's weather. I don't get it... its cold and it snows!?!? I love snow, I am spending my 4th christmas without snow and out of those 4 this is the 2nd that the temp was above 90, it does not feel like christmas. So everywhere that gets lake effect snow has 'dreadful' weather? Ok hey maybe some of you are talking about the cloud cover, there is nothing dreadful about that. The average temp in July is about 80 what is dreadful about that?
Now if we are making that out to be dreadful, does that mean Tornado Alley is unhabitable? What about Florida and other southern coastal states and their hurricanes? How about the easily flooded areas?
I know these have nothing to with weather but if snow is dreadful these conditions have to be insane. Cali's earthquakes, thats scary. Were any of you aware the the Hawaiin islands were created by..... volcanos!
Here is another one has anyone ever looked at the "man in the moon" you know the face that looks back at you. Those are craters from meteors guess what they hit the earth too and they could even land right on top of your house, no matter where you live in the world!
Ok so the meteor one may be a little off the wall (yeah it could happen), but so is saying Buffalo's weather is dreadful.

I want snow like I had my freshman year of high school (2000) on like Nov 21st, we got like 4ft-8ft in 24 hours. My normal commute to school was about 15 minutes. That day it took me 11 hours to get home! I made a lot of money snow blowing the next few days!

I hear you Marine. It's tiring the constant assumptions made about Buffalo's weather. Although Buffalo's snowy image is exaggerated some, many people also assume that we all hate it. I for one love winter (until March anyway), especially south of Buffalo in the country side where we get twice as much snow as Buffalo. It's really beautiful, especially after a fresh snow. I've found that if you're properly prepared for winter (your car, house, clothing, etc.) and you embrace the winter outdoor activities, winter becomes twice as nice.

I forgot to mention... although Buffalo hasn't received much snow yet this year, where I am located south of Buffalo in the hills we've already received well over 100" of snow. We're finally getting a real winter after a couple off years. This may be a record year for skiing and snowmobiling.

I can't believe the "shock & awe" on the news stations talking about the snow we got yesterday. I actually yelled to Kevin O'Connell (on the TV) "THIS IS BUFFALO! HELLO!? WE GET SNOW!"

Where I am in the city, we got about 5-6 inches of accumulation with some drifting, and the news is tabbing headline calling this a snowstorm?
City of Buffalo plows came out, did their job, and life went on.

This is the most common of weather conditions for upstate NY and the best we're hearing is another year of tv personalities panicing.... "oh, no! It's snowing! What are we going to do?" on their weather forecasts.

The Blizzards of '77 & '85, the storms of 2000 & 2001. October 2006, Those are the fondest memories of "digging out"

America in general has become a very south-west centric mindset. The general notion is that "normal" weather is not having much snow in the winter and that you should be able to walk around in shorts atleast 300 days of the year. "Cold" and "snow" is now considered the worst kind of weather you can have. Apparently these people didn't get the memo that HEAT is the NUMBER ONE cause of weather related death in the country!

I just find that so ironic because the United States was founded in the north-east and south-east. Most of the American public just believes what they are told.

I'll explain the snow to someone who is unfamiliar with it.

You work from 9am to 5pm, you come home it is pitch black out.

You come home to shovel out your driveway that was plowed in, and you are happy that the plow crews actually plowed your street.

You shovel outside for about an hour, when it is about 10 degrees out, with blowing winds.

You get up the next morning, your nose is so dry and your skin is cracked because you forgot to turn on the humidifier in your bedroom.

You have to shovel out your car again, and scrape ice off the glass of the car.

You get home from work, to find your 300 dollar gas bill for the month. Then you turn on the depressing Channel 2 news, which tells you about the new tax of the day, or how they are "holding people in power accountable".

When you get out of work, you don't want to go back outside, so you sit in your house and drink.

This cycle lasts 4-5 months out of the year, and during the summer is the rainy season (at least last summer was a wash)..
